Oh My God! A South Park: The Stick Of Truth Video

The show got ten times better with the inclusion of Butters
It is the near future, the year 2014. We are approaching The Ascension. It has long been foretold that this time would come, and that South Park: The Stick Of Truth would come out. The runes are now glowing, high on Mount Youtube, to be seen far and wide. A harbinger of things to come. This ungodly glow brings with it news of How The Game Was Made to all the subjects of the land. Soon, everyone shall know of the farts and the animation, and the existential horror of seeing a child’s voice coming out the face of a grown man. Gaze ye upon it, and prepare for the incoming storm.

I’ve been re-watching South Park. It’s way more sophisticated than I appreciated at the time. Though there is a worry that the game will be removed from the absolutely brutal and biting satire of the show–because it can never be up-to-date–there are plenty of episodes that give me hope. As the video below mentions, a lot of the show is just kids being kids, and some of the best episodes for me comes from when the kids are playing and everything just spins out from that (Good Times With Weapons, The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers).

The video has swearing and adult situations, and because of its content should not be viewed by anyone.

You know, I just watched a grown-man pretending to use a controller to demonstrate a game’s farting mechanic. I am totally okay with my life.

Yeah, South Park is a weird mix of fairly nuanced satire and butt jokes, but it’s one that works – without one or the other it’d be too mawkish or too stupid, and it normally gets away without being preachy while making some decent points.

      • Juan Carlo says:

I love South Park, but no way is it not preachy. It’s one of the preachiest shows ever. The characters often sum up the moral of each episode at the end. Which is kind of a parody of that trope, but the writers still use it to preach a message even if they are winking about the way they are delivering it.

Indeed. Watching this clip made me feel like Kartoffel GlaDOS. I went “Yeah!” and “Awright!!!” in abundance, much to my better/worse (circle preferred) half’s annoyance (it might also have something to do with the hollering actually waking her up.

Did you just say the C word

This game is the new Duke Nukem Forever at this point.

  4. Vernalagnia says:

I haven’t watched a new episode of South Park in years, but I’m oddly excited about this.

    • Lemming says:

You should, they are consistently good.

Southparkstudios is your friend. At the very least go watch the game of thrones episodes at the end of the last season. Some good shit there.

    • LordMidas says:

Yeah, me neither. Can’t wait for this though. Looks, well, fun. And that’s a rare commodity these days.

My most anticipated game of the year. I suspect that says something about either me or 2014 or the planet, but it’s probably not worth digging to find out what.

  6. ShadowTiger says:

From the gameplay video I saw this game seems to be more like an interactive movie. Yeah you get old-school JRPG combat but half the time it is just like watching a south park episode. Awesome if you love the show… but for a gamer who isn’t enthralled by fart jokes… I am not sure it will be worth getting.

“but for a gamer who isn’t enthralled by fart jokes…”

Yeah, you’re not the target audience.

  7. sd4f says:

Only one thing that I can count on. I won’t be playing this because of stupid DRM.

  8. PsychoWedge says:

this’ll probably be fantastic. I so hope it isn’t a fucking bug party like so many of Obsidians games.

    • Jenks says:

Let no one say a publisher forced it out the door before they were ready.

  9. Lemming says:

I wasn’t too fussed about this game, but that BTS video has me intrigued.

  10. Jamesworkshop says:

How much excitement is their for this game

  11. Moraven says:

THQ delayed it by 4 months.

Then Ubi bought it before that new release date. They gave it Dec 10, 2013. Ubi delayed it to March 2014.

Hell even in South Park they had joked about the delays. Parker and Stone have had a lot more hands on approach vs past South Park game.

Hopefully it was enough time to rid of most bugs.

  12. Hahaha says:

Combat looks like a slightly more involved costume quest

  13. Yosharian says:

Hahhaha when Trey said that he hates it when characters talk for him… I felt like jumping out of my chair and shouting YES BRO

Just thought I’d share that with you

In other news I am really stoked to get this.

Also holy shit that lead designer’s beard

“you need to FEEL it coming out of your asshole”

  15. Scumbag says:

Matt Maclean: The beard god smiles on you.

  16. Tei says:

This looks soo good. Sooo oooh good. Also is from Obsidian, so even if have the crappy gameplay of the Penny-arcade / Costume Quest games, it will be worth playing. I think.

  17. pilouuuu says:

Please, someone has to do a game that looks just like the cartoon about Archer and Adventure Time. I know there has been an Adventure Time released very recently, but I mean a game that’s not crap.

Hello? Telltale? Archer and Adventure Time!

South Park looks fantastic and hopefully the gameplay will be great as well.

    • The Random One says:

I love Telltale, but I honestly doubt they have the required whimsy to make a good Adventure Time game.

  18. tormos says:

It’s funny to hear Trey say that he hates it when you character is already established and has a personality without you when their game is being made by Obsidian, who did the best job of that i’ve ever seen in KOTOR 2

  19. Emeraude says:

Still no news on the DRM front ?

    • Ganimoth says:

According twitter it will not use Uplay at all, though you will have to live with Steam.

  20. Papageno says:

I can’t wait to see some reviews. I love South Park’s humor.
