Frozen Endzone Thawing Out On Steam Early Access

By John Walker on March 10th, 2014 at 6:00 pm.

Mode 7′s Frozen Endzone has just an hour ago made its way onto Steam’s Early Access. Not that early, eh Steam? The game’s beta came out at the beginning of December, and Alec has already had a mighty good poke around with it. To celebrate their arrival on the big grey rectangle, there’s a new super-chilled out trailer, below. A trailer than also includes a full-length game being played.

The trailer also details how the game plays, all the features that are currently running, and what their plans are for future development. Including customisation options, as well as a single-player “season” mode. The trailer is the first three minutes, and then there’s a commentated full game for the next seven.

They’re aiming to finish the game by the end of the year, by which point the single-player mode will have entirely joined the default multiplayer. But you can start playing right now, for $25 for two copies. Or you can get the same directly from Mode 7, along with Steam keys. You should do the latter – they’ll make more.

Can I make the robots pink ? I’ll buy it if I can and that trailer failed to answer.

What I want to know is when is the full game going to be out?

I hope early access isn’t going to significantly slow down the release of the full game…

      Hmm, I wonder…

I find myself wanting to love this game but I just know I’ll have to put it in the Fr.Endzone.

Every column about their games should have a comment about the multi-player scores, so here it is. Have they sorted out people refusing to finish games when it becomes obvious they will lose? I loved Frozen Synapse, but I could only play the multi-player in bursts, as I got too frustrated with the list of incomplete games against people who prized their precious win/loss ratio above actual levelling. (And integrity, but I’m not so dumb as to think people care about that too much, online).

You would have thought a game that was primarily about multi-player would have sorted that out. It’s kind of important.

Yes, this is now fixed – you will lose a game if you don’t commit a turn for two weeks. We took too long to fix this problem, but we have now done so.

I played a game of this yesterday after playing my last game some time in the middle of december. I really like the new turnovers and I will have to try to play this more actively again.

  6. Kolbex says:

Argh, I wish they would drop the stupid “two copies” pricing. No one I know wants to play, so I have zero need for an extra copy. That is why I have not yet bought it and won’t until a big sale. Otherwise I would already be playing.

    • onyhow says:

I don’t know, trade your extra copy away for other games? It’s a new game, they’ll be people who want the thing…
