Team Meat’s Live Action Stealth: A Voyeur For September

By Graham Smith on August 19th, 2014 at 6:00 pm.

Team Meat, makers of Super Meat Boy, have announced their intent to become an indie game developer. What does that mean? That’s my cruel way of saying that the two-person team have put their previously announced new game Mew-Genics on hold, and released a fuzzy, live-action trailer for a new game called A Voyeur For September, about which there are no details other than that it’s a “live action stealth game”. That video is embedded below.

Taking off my grumpy hat for a second, Team Meat have the right to do whatever they want (obv) and I can’t say that I’m not intrigued. Before Super Meat Boy, co-developer Edmund McMillen was known for a ton of different experimental games. The thought that he and his Team Meat partner Tommy Refenes might use the freedom (i.e. money) brought by Super Meat Boy’s success to carry out similar experimental projects but on a larger (i.e. more expensive?) scale is exciting.

More of the game should be shown at this year’s PAX Prime on August 29th and while Mew-Genics is on hold until Voyeur In September is finished, it’s not cancelled, and we should still have the opportunity to breed mutant kittens in the future.

According to YouTube… A Voyeur for September is an anagram of Super Meat Boy Forever. MYSTERIOUS.

    • Dezmiatu says:

Another clue is that the game’s title is an anagram for My Feverous Reprobate.

I think something terrible happened in the making of this game, and Team Meat is addicted to it. Will playing this game let us witness what happened and make us join them in their uncontrollable debauchery?

      • DelrueOfDetroit says:

And the anagram Evaporometers Fur Bye definitely proves that there are online anagram makers.

Others have pointed out that “A Voyeur For September” is an anagram of “Super Meat Boy Forever” so it’s possible we’re just looking at some viral marketing japery.
EDIT: I have been beaten to the punch.

  3. Freud says:

“A Voyeur For September” is an anagram for “Maestro Beef Purveyor” which makes very little sense.

Goddamnit, just finish Mewgenics already ><

Mewgenics doesn’t work, does it? The mechanics not coming together, feared as much.

    • Nenjin says:

      Where are you getting this?

Last they said, it was fine, but they keep adding more content and ideas instead of wrapping it up.

      • mechabuddha says:

That’s usually a sign of the mechanics not coming together.

        • Nenjin says:

So the answer is: “Nowhere, just our armchair developer instincts.”

Gotcha. At the last public demo of it, people seemed pretty pleased with it.

          • mechabuddha says:

I didn’t say people weren’t pleased with it, nor did I say it was a bad demo. But like you said, they keep adding more content and ideas instead of wrapping it up. This is because there is no clearly defined final product. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it also means two things. 1) The mechanics are not in a product-ready state. 2) A product without a clearly defined end state is impossible to complete, and thus easier to lose focus on.

This, or devs becoming tired on a project which still have a way to go to work fully (and/or lacking the money to continue working on it), and taking a break from it to come back later (like for Storyteller : http://www.storyteller-game.com/2014/01/ernesto-rpg-side-project.html)

I somehow hope that “Is this Frog Fractions 2?” will be a question asked in the comments of many, many more articles to come.

    • Fenix says:

That’s exactly what I thought instantly after watching the trailer too.

God dammit now I just want Frog Fractions 2.

This is really clever! Get everyone either excited about an ARC or get the internet Trolls frothing with anger and whip everyone up into a frenzy before that perfect moment when they announce a release date for Mewgenics and admit they were having a bit ‘o fun with us all.

    Very clever indeed!

Unless it’s true in which case I shall eat my furniture in rage.

Ah well. atleast the Mew Genics comic magazine is still great.
It’s about breeding cats. How can it not happen?
