It’s the Omnispacebus! Space week has been and gone, but if you missed even a single syllable of our vaguely thematic wittering about stars and planets and spaceships and jetpack brontosauruses and dear Christ so much Eve, here’s where to catch up.

Oh, worth quickly mentioning a site-tech snafu, as folk keep mailing us about it – we are aware that the RSS feed is truncated and picture-free. It’s an unfortunate side-effect of a WordPress upgrade, and we’re hoping for word on a fix soon. Soz, like. In gladder tidings, the three people who read us in Safari will be happy to know we once again play nice with Apple’s silvery browser.

Eidos Montreal To Make Thief 4?

Okay, this is an interesting one. A couple of days ago Eidos Montreal lobbed up a notice they were now recruiting staff to work on their new game. To quote the statement from their site: “Eidos-Montréal is proud to announce the recruitment for our 2nd “AAA” project. … A hint! The title begins with the letter “ T”.” Which doesn’t mean much until you notice – as a forumite of theirs did – the previously existing line on their site here: “The first two games we develop will revive successful franchises.” With the Montreal Studio already at work on Deus Ex 3, it’s an easy leap to the further adventures of Mr Stealy rather than the further adventures of the-also-Eidos-Owned-Terracide. Or, less facetiously, they could be Tomb Raider… but that franchise doesn’t need reviving. Let’s be honest: It’s almost certainly Thief. They wouldn’t have said the teasing “T” otherwise.

Eurogamer: Wrath of Kane Review

Ooh, that Kane is a bad 'un.
I’ve just reviewed C&C3’s add-on for Eurogamer. It’s here. It it I start by saying things like this:

By now, the wives of the assorted Command and Conquer head honchos have got to be getting a little suspicious. “So, who have you hired for that new job in the office?” they’ll ask. “Oh, no-one special. Just the best candidate,” says the commander. “Her references were impeccable.” An eyebow twitches. He glances out the window. “Oooh, isn’t the Tiberium lovely at this time of year.” “Is she attractive?” “Well… if you like that kind of thing. Could do with a few square meals, of course.” “She better not be another sex symbol, Mr Commander!” “Is that the time? I need to get to bed.” “I’m going to Tank Rush all over your Tesla Coils, mister.”

And eventually get around to talking about the add-on. No, really. Oh – warning. There’s some Gillenisms which will be fixed when Tom gets back from his adventures. Until then – er -use your imagination.

Blacksmiths Create WoW Epic Armour

This interview with a German blacksmith over on the official World Of Warcraft site explains how his team got into making full, wearable sets of fantasy armour, including some based on WoW’s epic armour sets.

In the post you show us the tier 2 set for the Paladin. How long did you work on it until it finally matched your vision completely, and what was the most difficult part of creating it?

In total we spent several hundred hours on the tier 2 set for the Paladin. The mighty shoulders with the big books and the daggers, which we created out of brass, were especially hard to do. Additionally the shoulders have a substructure to make them lead out as far as they do for a Human Paladin in the game. It was very important for me, that at the end the proportions would be really exact. Also the belt had a few pitfalls, one might not see right away. More precisely, you don’t see – like in the game – anything where you could open the belt.

Something Else To Fear

A new Project Origin trailer appears, in what appears to be a series attempting to put us off the game as much as possible. This time with 34 seconds of company logos!

We’d show you far more of ourselves, Gametrailers.

More floating down dingy corridors, more sudden cuts to a monster, and then some game footage that could come from any shooter ever. (Although Mr Flippityfloppity looks fun). Come on Monolith! What are you doing?

Kung-fu Master Meets Sex Offenders Register

When Walker found this, he lobbed it straight at me: “Your Sort of Thing”, apparently. This is him implying I’m a disturbed onaninst who fruitfully ejaculates at the images of underage frogs in lingerie. Which is ludicrous – all the frogs are of legal age. Anyway, With its instruction video appearing just before the 1st, this existed in a “April Fools… or just Japanese Software Development?” file for a few moments. But, no, it’s real.

Yes, it’s the new game from Nigoro, the makers of last year’s aristocratic-slapping-game Rose & Camellia, and sees them really delving their unique idiom. Videos, awesome plot fragments and slander against podcasting comrades beneath the cut.

DICE: PC Dying? Crazy!

They still love us.

While you can bathe in the delights of our very own (sort of) interview with DICE, regarding the forthcoming Battlefield Heroes, Gamasutra have one of their very own, and it reveals some interesting commentary about the PC from EA.

There’s a sensible position put across by senior producer Ben Cousins, referencing Raph Koster’s belief that “consoles are a niche market.”

“If you look at the amount of PCs that are out there, we’re talking hundreds and hundreds of millions; if you look at the amount of PS3s and 360s, we’re talking tens of millions, barely. So, absolutely, people think that the PC is dying, but that’s a crazy idea.”

James Salt Battlefield Heroes Interview

Now, as he runs off and does something which will probably earn proper money, he finds that he's an interview got left which he did with James Salt, Lead Designer of Battlefield Heroes. He lobs it at us. We print it. Win!

In it Salt talks about the inspirations behind the aesthetics change ("The Team Fortress 2 question"), how the look rejuvenates enthusiasm for the period, the work method and whether he prefers it to Battlefield Bad Compa... Waitasec, Lazarii, that's a bloody console game. You cad.

Spectromancer Multiplayer Beta

How come I always blog about the stuff with the 2D graphics which never move?

Those who remember the ancient days of February will recall me blogging about Spectromancer, the card-game-esque wizard-wargame, from the makers of Magic: The Gathering and Astral Tournament. I probably mentioned that while the Single-Player was fun, the multipliplayer Beta was forthcoming. Well, now it’s forthcome. I have played one game, which I won, so this means this must be the greatest game the world has ever seen. Weak narcissism aside, well worth a download. Oh – and a second playable class of the Illusionist has been added to the already available Cleric. The Illusionists go wild!

EUO: Free Online Adventureosity

INTO THE WHITE! INTO THE WHITE! INTO THE WHITE!
I’ll be getting into the Space Week! theme soon, but I’ve been playing a load of distinctly un-Space Week! indie games over the weekend which I want to blog about. The Developer of EUO dropped me a line to tell that, as of April 5th, he’s been running his free Online RPG for Five (Count ‘em!) years and has all manner of cheery events like 5x XP, DM run events and general prizes. I’ll probably plug it then, assuming I remember and don’t get confused by booze + 4 versus games journalists. Having played a few levels, it’s probably best described as what Ultima Online would be like if they decided to go Online circa Ultima 4. As well as those who like an intimate retro adventure, it’s also worth noting that its training island is a good introduction to Rogue-like-controls for those of you who are too intimidated by all that ASCII. (Actually, it’s vaguely Space Themed, so it ties into SPACE WEEK!)
