I haven't gotten attached to a multiplayer FPS since vanilla CS, maybe this'll be the one to break the drought? We'll see.

What sort of changes are you guys expecting? I'd like to see some balance between weapons. Any ideas?

The pump shottie needs to do a bit more. Maybe add a minor stun effect dependent on distance and damage dealt, or alternatively, a jitter effect.

m249: sucks sucks sucks sucks. No idea what to do with it.

bullpup: first shot is supposedly 100% accurate. The next couple of shots go everywhere you don't want them to. The bullpup configuration is supposed to result in guns with much shorter length and therefore improve maneuverability by a large extent...sadly this isn't modeled in CS. Maybe less recoil?

SMG: the mp5 just cannot out fire, out damage, out range all the other SMGs. Make the other ones cheaper. And machine pistols like mac10 and TMP should replace the pistol slot or something and cost a bit less. I'd imagine these are the ones u run eco on.

the full auto sniper rifle: remove them. Unless we have substantially larger maps in CS3.

Man, balancing CS guns are hard because the best ARs, pistols, and smgs are already so sufficient at everything. The AK and M4 are viable at all map distances pretty much. Maybe some toning down is in order.

edit: on larger maps: i'd like to see tiered missions, like UT's assault mode, where missions r split into parts and players respawn in between. It would modernise CS in a way i think. Of course, keep the short, 6v6 defuse missions as well.

I enjoyed CSS quite moderately but still enjoyed it for quite a long time. I'm glad it's getting a new breath of life (Not that it's still not breathing) and can't wait to see how it stands up against the currently popular shooters.

Isn't CS:GO the fourth iteration of the series on PC?

I must admit I'm kind of excited to see what they've done with the game. It's been a long time coming and it's going to be interesting to see how Valve have likely re imagined CS post CoD & BF. I doubt very much whether that game will necessarily be looking to compete against those titles, but will likely be looking to carve it's own separate niche.

CZ doesn't count and never did. ;)

I do prefer the 'GO' moniker, though. It's pretty clever.

Depending on which site I read, it sounds like this is either going to be an HD remake to CS:S or a full-on sequel... I'm confused.

I'm in two minds about this.

Back when it was first released, I was a huge fan of Counter-Strike; hell, I even remember playing the beta (back in the days before they became more fashionable of course!).

It was my multiplayer drug of choice for two years straight back in the early 2000's. I played it so much that I kind of 'burnt out' and I got fed up of it. CS:Source was decent enough, but it was pretty much the same game (to me anyway) so I never really got into it.

I'll be very interested in what changes Valve have made in this new game; but if it's too similar to its previous incarnations, I fear I won't like it much.

CS:S was my Game of choice for many years. Heck It made me really get into FPS gaming on the PC in the first place ( well that and BF 1942) I just hope there will still be the HUGE community behind it like there is for CS:S and 1.6. As well as it doesn't cave in to modern gaming trends such as Regen health etc.

http://counterstrikego.com/ has a bunch of officially-confirmed info, both from testers and Valve themselves. What is know now is:

Planned release in Q1 2012
Available on PC/Mac, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3
Matchmaking system
Focus on 5v5 competitive play
Both Defuse (de_) and Hostage (cs_) map types confirmed!
eSports-oriented
Competitive and Casual modes
Ranked / ladder play for individuals and teams
Dedicated servers
Gameplay has elements similar to both CS:S and CS 1.6
Classic maps (with both minor and major modifications) include: Dust2, Dust, Aztec, Inferno, Nuke, Train
Molotov grenade: creates area of fire that slows players crossing through it
Decoy grenade: emits fake weapon firing sounds to confuse enemies about your position
Bullets penetrate some walls and objects like CS 1.6
Many changes to weapons, as well as new weapons
Classic gameplay: no ironsights
Beta in September or October (Unconfirmed)

The mention of consoles has got a lot of people worried, but perhaps Valve can pull it off. They should, if they're serious about getting into the e-Sport space.

A "HD" remake is rather unlikely considering 1. it's the same engine (alright, yes it is updated) and 2. CS:S had "HD" resolutions already.

I really don't see the point of a new CS(or DoD) until Valve move on from the Source engine.

It's because Valve are obviously trying to break into the eSport scene, so why not try with Counter Strike as well as Dota 2?
