A lot of people are going to be excited about that; at least one, if you count me.
Does anyone else intend to purchase this fine game, or has anyone pre-ordered it? Let's spend all day talking about how gravelly that voice is, and how it will be amazing.
I will begin: that voice, it's so gravelly! That game, is might be amazing!

It does look interesting, but I'd like to try a demo before buying it to know if it is actually something I would play for a long time or if it's just a passing interest :P

Ordered it a couple of weeks ago, no pre-load last time I looked though. Maybe its small enough to not need it.

I pre-ordered it. Which was kind of pointless, considering the next time I'll be able to sensually touch my gaming PC is next week.
LOVE the soundtrack and the texan accent.

Yeah, normally I would need to wait for the demo as well, but this is a special case because I am far more interested in the music and story and gravelly-voiced-background-man, and those were demoed very satisfactorily in the trailer.
I hope the fightin' is fun too, and it looks fun enough, but that will be a bonus. ;) And there are not many instances where I can say the fightin' is secondary, hoo ee let me tell you boy.
Yeah I'm in, although I doubt I'll get to playing it for a few days yet.

It's actually supposed to be fairly short, so I don't think it's something you need to commit to for a long time. I am super-excited about it, and will be downloading it as soon as I can. Tomorrow's my birthday, too, so I think that means I have to love it. And then the day after is From Dust! I am excited.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIADDON. For your birthday, I got you a forum post that says HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

If it's short, I might grab it to tide me over until DX:HR comes out. If it's long, I'll get it anyway, but later.

Supposedly 8-10 hours, though you may want to play it multiple times to hear more words (depending on how you play) from the gravelly-voiced man!

I finished it in two days of four-five hour sessions, there are a few bonus challenges and multiple endings to play for but it wont add a lot of time on top of that.
I only found two problems with it myself. the lock on for the gun cycles through each target, but this makes it difficult to quickly select the enemy I wanted to, this isn't a problem in regular play but some of the optional timed challenges were too difficult to finish with this method. hopefully it uses the mouse and the issue is fixed for the PC version. another issue was that melee attacks were outclassed by ranged and as the game went on I just stopped using them, I don't see that being changed to be more balanced though.
as a whole though its one of the better games released this year, and it actually has a satisfying ending. how often is it that you can say that about a game?

Like....Five times. Maybe nine.
So glad to hear it =) The ending of Jackal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA-GKfclbLQ) leaves me with more of a contented smile than most things these days (but I just got done playing Assassin's Creed 2, so...biased).

Pre-Ordered lots of smaller/Indie games this month xD Among them LIMBO, Bastion, From Dust...
And today Rock of Ages: http://store.steampowered.com/app/22230/
And I'll probably do the same with Avadon when it's possible, seeing as it'll cost 10$: http://store.steampowered.com/app/112100/
I lost the link to the OST, went to the Google and got a page wot included this:
Spoiler Warning: The music in Bastion is key to the experience. We advise playing through the game before listening to the soundtrack.
But ... I have listened to the music FIFTY THOUSAND TIMES now. The game is ruined! And it was Jim Rossignol who done it!

Considering that the music is basically what turned this from a "huh, interesting" to a "WILL BUY RIGHT AWAY IF EARLY PC-VERSION REVIEWS AREN'T DISASTROUS" for me, I suppose I shall have to live with being "spoiled".

Will wait for a demo to see how bad the constant talking of the commentator bothers me during play. The soundtrack sounds good, so maybe this will be something for the bargain bucket.
I don't know how this game will work for us foreigners. I don't understand english, so to me his voice will sound like "yadda yadddaa blah blah blah". If theres something important in that voice, better have subs.

I get the impression that the narrator is crucial to the game. A quick Google suggests that the X360 version has at least english subs although some people are having difficulty getting them to work. Still, no reason to think they would be removed for the PC version...
Hmm which brings another question to mind: gamepad or keyboard+mouse for this game?

The FAQ says there will be subtitles in a variety of languages but that it would have been too difficult to get the same quality of voice work (especially because the narration is timed to the millisecond the work with the environment) so they had to opt for only English voice. =(

But really, you couldn't hope to find a Logan Cunningham in more than one language anyway! They'd have to teach him to be multilingual. =P

I haven't decided either, I guess it depends if it plays adventurey or diablo point and clickery. Anyone know?

Onnnnnne! I will not be able to play it until the late hours of the evening, though. Will I sustain the wait?
Ohh, I suppose I will.

I definitely want to get on the Bastion train, but I may have to wait a few days until I burn out my Dredmor love a bit more.

I was planning to buy the game but it's not available in Brazil anymore. According to the developers, Warner requires them to receive a content rating in Brazil in order to sell the game to us. Even our government doesn't require games sold through steam to have a content rating, Warner must be really stupid to require something like this.

Crashes for me upon entering a "distillery" at the first 10 minutes of the game. Seems to be bit buggy right now, beware.

Just finished it, a very fun game but the main story is fairly short (4-5 hours).
There is a New Game+ mode which should keep me occupied, upgrading everything is likely to take a while.

Just completed this, thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely a game that's more than the sum of its individual parts.
I just finished it too. I like the game for his quality. Now I am supposed to play again (mode +), but I am not a completionist, and I think I have taken the right decisions.

Finished. It got a bit better right at the very end. But the last 1-2 hours still felt a bit like a chore. I accidentaly clicked the wrong button at the end and got the ending I had not intended to see. If that means that I have to get through all of this again I guess I'll take a longer break from this. In the end it was worth the money.

Do what I did, just watch the other ending on youtube. =) It's essentially just a different cutscene so I think it's not losing much if you watch them back to back (although surely the *very* best way would be to choose the left ending, and then play it all the way through again, and choose the right ending).

Yeah, I wouldn't play it again for completionism either...but I will play it again in order to try out all of the weapon upgrades (because that's just fun-ism) and hear some more narration lines. I doubt I will finish every challenge or training grounds, though.

I've got the top prize in 5/7 of the training grounds (seriously, that shield one is HARD) so I guess I'll try going for completionism. If I start a New Game+, do my completed challenges carry over?
Berzee
22-08-2011, 01:14 AM
I think you actually have to do them again! But I'm not sure...still, they get easier with upgraded weapons =) except, yeah, upgrades won't really help with the shield one. I beat it first try, purely by luck! Not sure I could do it again without a long struggle...

Ugh, how annoying... Is there a spoiler-free "marker point" that will let me know I'm near the end, so I can finish everything I want to up? I doubt I'll finish all the vigils ever, if that's the case.

Yep, don't enter the very last level with the word [snip] in the name, and you can play forever. =)

Aha! My wife just reminded me that there is actually a popup that warns you there's no going back after a particular point. So I removed my not-even-a-spoiler above. =)
Edit: if you bought the game on steam though, at least play new game+ long enough to try out the super-secret special "Q" ability!

Nope! They're reset. I found the rest of them fairly easy once I'd upgraded the weapons but didn't even bother with the shield one. There's enough weapons to complete the vigil without having to do the shield and from what I can tell the only reward is fragments, not items.

Well, it'd be nice to get all the Steam achievements for one game at SOME point... Even if they don't matter.

I just wanna say that Slinger's Song is my official pub drinking theme for now and forever.
The soundtrack is bloody great.

I really enjoyed the soundtrack too. I'm glad I bought the soundtrack version (thus saving me something like 50p if I'd bought it later- yay?). Steam really needs a decent way to deliver extra digital content though. Having to root around in the files isn't complicated but might be for someone who doesn't know where to look.
Favourite weapons have been the a fang repeater and hammer combo. Fully upgraded those two feel awesome. I am having some trouble with the Machete trial though- My tactics involve just roll up to a bunch then mash attack and throw a triple machete at anyone off-map. But it takes like 20s too long.

You know when you eat an amazing meal, and you end up disappointed that it's gone because you're still hungry? That's the best way I can describe how I feel about Bastion. I loved it, but I don't feel like I was able to get enough of it.
