Looks like anyone with a premium key (from blight of the immortals) would be able to create a private game of this.

Never played any games by this dev before, but I'll give it a try. Is there an RPS Blight of the Immortals game going too? Because that looks interesting as well.

Liqourish

Honestly, neptune's pride is a far better game than blight of the immortals. we had a game of it back here, (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/forums/showthread.php?152-Neptune-s-Pride-Space-is-the-Place/) and there looks to be interest for another one. Fair warning though: that game will make you jaded to the world of social interaction.

I'd also like in on the next, bigger game if it's a go.

That was a fun game and good work themummra. I can get another game up and running later today if I know what people want. Do we have more than 6 people interested? Game can handle 8 and 12 player arrangements. But more importantly, what should the harvest goal be? 10,000 and 15,0000 crystal are the only options we have since 5,000 was a little on the short side.

Cosmicolor what happened?!?

I decided to bow out before the aliens/other players swarmed and murdered me. Also having the check on the game all the time turned into a chore and thus sucked out whatever interest I had in it, to be honest. Grats to Shepard for winning.

Did you have any pvp combat in your game?

Did you have any pvp combat in your game?

Other people did. I just sorta sat back and used my ally's shared vision to set up several dozen mines in remote locations I otherwise would not have had access to.
My main grievances were with those friggin' Aliens. Wiped out two of their nests purely out of spite.

I missed the first, but would like to join any new game with RPS folks, so +1

MasterBoo

Actually, count me out. Too many things to be bothered with a game that requires constant checking :/

Liqourish
15-09-2011, 10:47 AM
Is it just me, or does this game require more checking than NP? Or maybe it's just that it isn't as compelling, or that it starts out fast (6 hours for reinforcements for example) without you having invested in the game yet.

Oak
15-09-2011, 12:22 PM
It does. If you log in regularly you can get, what, four uses out of the reinforcement card a day? You can't really afford not to do that if you're able. If it's not compelling in the same way as Neptune's Pride, it makes up for it with its pace and the variety provided by the card mechanic.

shoptroll
15-09-2011, 12:55 PM
I think there's some wiggle room on the 6 hour clock for some actions. As long as you get some cards in that one hour window before the next "tick" (every hour of game time) it'll activate after 6 "ticks" have processed.

I keep an eye on the game but I seem to do the bulk of my actions on 8-12 hour cycles. Didn't really invest myself that much in NP, but this seems less stressful to me.

My main grievances were with those friggin' Aliens. Wiped out two of their nests purely out of spite.

On easy, I've found it simpler to find a choke point and keep a security detail camped there. It diverts some of your military strength early on, but the payoff is you level up that detail pretty fast which is nice for the mid game. You can definitely risk swapping out the detail for a fresh batch but you'll obvious want to have a larger number of newbies camping there.

I have noticed that in a 5000 mineral goal set to Easy difficulty you won't see swarms above level 5. Although this is based on two games so far so maybe that's not quite enough data?

shoptroll
16-09-2011, 03:23 AM
Not sure if double posts are discouraged here, but I've created a game.

RPS Folly: The Phantom Horace (http://jf.ironhelmet.com/game/393377)
password: horacetheinfinitebear

6 players, easy difficulty, 10,000 mineral to win. Alliances are negotiable.

The game is currently paused. Will start it in roughly 48 hours (approx. 10 PM EDT on 9/17) unless everyone agrees to start it earlier.

However, I'll shamelessly bump to keep this on top of other threads.

For anyone still following this game, sorry I haven't been active since Monday. I fell and broke my ankle Tuesday morning and haven't been able to get to a real computer to check on the game. I think at this point I'm going to automatically forfeit tonight. Was fun and I hope to play again once I'm able :)

So we've got 4 people interested... maybe 5. I'm going to start up a new game tonight and pause it, and I'll give people about 72 hours to get into the game. It's not going to be password protected so we can fill the ranks with pubbers. I'm thinking 6 or 8 people total. Any objections or layout/difficulty requests?

Do we want a new game after this one is over? Getting pubbies helped give us a lot of territory to fight over except for the fact none of them stuck around... I am considering taking a break once this is over due to the holidays, so I'd like some input before I decide to renew my subscription.

Also, thoughts on bug difficulty? Aside from some early flailing I haven't had much trouble. Or I just got lucky this game.

Easy
03-12-2011, 11:15 AM
Not for me. I enjoyed it, but I don't like how it can get a little obsessive what with the real time nature (i.e. if I forget to give commands, I'm loosing out). I mean, I actually had to set my alarm clock earlier so I could give my orders before heading into work, and at work I rarely if ever was able to check in and give orders.

But thanks a lot guys. Oak, I hate you :). Shep, making our alliance was one of the highlights. Shop, well played. I do think Shep had a bad starting position with his nests.

shoptroll
04-12-2011, 03:25 PM
Good game everyone :) I was actually nervous Shep was going to start taking over my territory with his massive army which is why I started pushing on Oak even though I really didn't need to.

A couple things I learned from this round:
1) Multiple copies of double grinder don't stack.
2) Lucky doesn't add dice, just doubles the result of the roll
3) Bugs suck

Oak

Good game. Good game, good game. It took a while to break the ice, though; they should add some kind of obvious chat bar, a la Neptune's Pride, to get casual conversation going. I like to think the reason I was such a devious prick (sorry, Easy) is that this game is as conducive to being one as NP, but the accompanying trepidation and remorse in that one become sinister glee here. There's an element of comedy and tabletop rivalry in constantly smacking other players with irritating cards. Halving their main force with an orbital cannon is like moving the robber to their most lucrative hex in Settlers of Catan. Or maybe not; I've only played the digital version of that so I'm kind of talking out of my ass here, but you get the idea.

Bugs are a good way to curtail early expansion and add some randomness to the game, but by the end they had, effectively, created a no-man's-land along my north and northeastern borders. I had to allot manpower and cards I needed elsewhere just to keep my remaining mines from being lost.

I'm not sure about a new game. Yet, anyway.
