View Full Version : Anybody for a game of Solium Infernium?

I haven't played in ages.

Anybody fancy a game?

I would love to play it with some RPS folk. I haven't played it with people even once though, I will probably get crushed. :)

Well, I've never managed to win a game. So I too will probably get crushed.

Hit me up on steam and we can try and find a couple of others :)

I may be interested if the pace is really, really slow, and if I can find my download link again somewhere. :)

/Edit: Gods, I love RPS crowd. Bloodbowl, Frozen Synapse AND Solium Infernum players? Bliss.

mlaskus
06-06-2011, 03:43 PM
Oh yeah, I would also only be interested in a slow paced game, I don't have a lot of time to play recently.

riadsala

How slow is slow?

My idea of a "fast-paced" PBEM game is a turn per day.

I am always up for a game of Solium Infernum, preferably using Dropbox.

@Vexing Vison
My original download link had expiered, so I wrote to Vic(the game's dev) at support {at} crypticcomet.com about it. I received a new one two hours later.

We should probably start an RPS game club, regular matches would be splendid. I'm also quite sure we can recruit more people over here. The Solium Infernum AARs were incredibly popular.

6 is the maximum number of players, isn't it? We could start it as soon as you guys want.

I can probably commit to three turns per week, with the option of sitting out a turn every now and then. If that's too slow for anyone, I'm sure you'll find faster players somewhere. :)

Signed up, but I don't get the relevance of Steam with this.

there isn't any, beyond the fact that most folk have it, and it's an easy way of messaging people (making evil plans, or simply reminding somebody to take a turn as everybody has been waiting two week...)

A Steam or forum group would certainly be nice. People can join or leave those whenever they please and as long as they are in, they get informed about upcoming games. We also get a self updating list of people interested in playing.

Should I set one up? We will need a name with a pun!

There's a group already... (don't know how to url steam groups though)

not sure if its used much anymore though. Maybe we could resurrect it.

Anyways, we now have 6 players, so I'll set up a game. Expect emails soon!

Yeah I'm in the Steam group, but I can't remember what it's called either!

As far as reminders go, a message in the Dropbox seems the best way. For plotting, I've put a text doc in the Dropbox that we fill in with our forum names, email addresses and fiend names. I also took the liberty of making a turn folder that our completed turns and the save can go in to keep them separate.

@ Web Cole - I'd be happy to join another game.

Alright, Vex the Archduke of... Vexing things has submitted turn for A Snowball's Chance in Hell.

I think I was the last one. Figures, but I had to catch up with the manual from scratch AND hunt down the download link again. In no particular order.

Upon reading the manual, I understand why I never understood the game, but let's see what happens.

Don't think you're the last one, as I think I am in the game (got a dropbox email at least) but am still at work (being a colonial and all). Heading out of here soon, and will get it in as soon as I can. That's assuming I am in fact in the game. :)

If you can organise it, try and all get together at once and play 10 or 20 turns some evening. It gets the slowest part of the game out of the way, makes people less likely to drop out.

That's a really good idea, but I'm currently at 15 hours a day at work or something like that, in the forseeable future. Just saying that I have no idea when I'd be able to play a few turns in a row. ;)

Let's see how this goes, I forgot what a pain it was to find the bloody savegame folder. When did games stop keeping things in the folder they were installed to? Hrmf.

Yeah, it's a pain. But you can get shortcuts set up which make things a bit smoother :)

Just waiting for Quickfire to take his first shot, and we're off. If I get up early enough, I'll see if I have time to check for this turn tomorrow before work :)

Alright - personally I'm happy to play with 5 plus 1 AI fiend for a random factor, although if a 6th person turns up before we start that's great. Send me PMs with your email addresses and I'll get the Dropbox set up. Anyone who doesn't have Dropbox, get it here (https://www.dropbox.com/home#:::) - it's incredibly simple to set up.

I lean towards 15 turns. Tell me your map preference in the PM and we'll go with the most popular choice.

P.S. I like Kelron's 'session' idea a lot too

If you like byzantine boardgames with deceit, trickery, military tactics, bluff and blunder all being viable options to the road to victory, this is the game for you, no matter the price.

However, you'll probably need to play multiplayer to get the most out of it, trying to bluff AI is always more random than it should be.

The Innocent
09-06-2011, 07:53 AM
Whew, as much as I agree with Kelron's "session" idea (that's what I do with my group of friends when we organize Dominions 3 games -- do the first year [12 turns] quickly so as to get everyone involved), but it sounds like a logistical nightmare since we could be scattered about the planet for all we know.

Manged to get my turn in before I left for work, so shouldn't hold things up today :)

Also, looking at it, looks like there were really one one or two other people at most who could have taken a PoP the first turn, if any at all, so I think you were just lucky enough to be able to take one while most of us weren't. At least, that's my noob view of it, maybe the experienced players have a different take, lol.

Well, the Dropbox folder has been sent, and ClangingChimesOfDoom is ready to commence. There won't be snow in Hell this Christmastime.

A brisk turn-a-day turnaround would be great. If you're going away or having internet problems/RL issues that disrupt things then please post a note in the Dropbox to let everyone know. If someone is AWOL for 48 hours this will prompt a friendly concerned message from me.

As per Kelron's request there are five fiends with no AI player.

Oh, and the game is 15 tokens, not 15 turns as I absent-mindedly posted earlier. Dante's Peak, small map, uncommon PoPs.

By the way, a Snowball In Hell is starting to get interesting just before turn 10. The first Places of Power have been secured, and most of us have one by now. There is a slatter of high-profile legions around, and by the amount of purchases from the Bazaar, I suppose most of the Archfiends have a rather devilish Charisma. Good good, it's all going according to the plan.

And now that everyone is preparing to joust for position, the insults and demands are starting to fly. Let the games begin!

Regarding the Solium Socordia game: How about some high fives for the guy who's bringing Mr. Tangible down a peg? I think I deserve some applause.
Basically what happened was Mr. Tangible insults me, because he wants to start a ruckus. I don't want to take his crap, so I challenge him to the arena. "Ho ho!" He must have thought to himself. "I have Haagenti, and he utterly crushed that Weeble fellow's champion. None can stand before me! Here's the beef, Dalek!"

I trounced him thoroughly. No contest. Only took two points of damage. I won't reveal how. But it was glorious.

I didn't feel comfortable writing after the game, as I felt that the write up would be lacking quality. So, I will be writing over here:http://octopusoverlords.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=78789&p=1730621#p1730621
It's in character, as Jon Irenicus. Anyone not in The Abyss is free to go over there and have a look. I will hopefully be updating on a 1-2 turn basis, complete with images. I am hoping to achieve a similar quality and feel to the RPS write up that inspired me to get this game. If you do decide to look, have fun!

Oh, and there is one spoiler at the beginning that has my current Solium Socordia build. I would appreciate it if any players of that game who happen to look do not click the spoiler under: "For those in need of a laugh."

mrchinchin25: Heh you may be ahead of me, because I played one round of the demo before I jumped into "the abyss" game :) Still I think I can handle 2 games in the air, so you can count me in.

Yeh if someone wants to run a second game, or more games in general count me in if your short on players.

Hey, I'm also very interested. I registered just for this! :) I'm fine with a couple of turns per week, after a strong start (10-15 turns in a couple of days).

Hey everyone,

My last game just finished, so am looking to get in on a new one. Let me know if there is space for me in any starting up.

Approximately a turn per day works well in my opinion, but I'm fairly flexible.

Desvergeh.

Okay really, you lot are just lazy. :P
I'll start a game for you five people who want another game of Solium Infernum. PM me your email addresses, suggest what type of game you want, and prepare for hell.

And this is the last time I'm doing this, because I doubt I can handle hosting more than two games.

Bring it on, you hellish freaks.

And back, and did my turn for the Hellish Snowballs. Sorry for the fried-graphic-card-induced delay.

ClangingChimesOfDoom:

I'm going to be away for a week starting Saturday, I doubt I'll have internet access so the game will have to go on hold. Another way of looking at it is you get an extra week to plot my downfall.

DukeOfChutney
23-07-2011, 05:05 PM
hmm

im away too, from the 30th-8th and wont be able to submit moves

im playing in the ABYSS, and GOLGOTHA. Either you guys can wait a week, or if you dont want to do this, im happy to elect a player than will cover for me in my stead. All you have to do is accept any insults or demands made against me (so people cant invade me) and collect resources each turn. Also id ask that no one bribe any of my legions champions etc away from me whilst im not there do defend.

Somewhat Okay Shepherd
23-07-2011, 07:06 PM
Get someone to cover in your stead please. The game's paces are slow enough, you should probably only miss two or three turns.

As for not stealing your shit, I don't think anyone's going to make any promises. This is Hell, after all.

I'm looking at you, The Bored One.

Heh, I am in both of those games too! Can someone cover for you? how does that work, because the game seems to know who I am when I load the turn file. If it is not involved I could cover for you, and I solemnly promise not to steal your shit.. for a choice selection of your tribute that I collect on your behalf :)

DukeOfChutney
25-07-2011, 05:37 PM
presumably who ever covered would have to have an install of the game that was not involved in the game and have my character saved on their PC as well as the turn file.

any volunteers?

I can send you my character file and the trn file etc? Of course we would have to get you linked to the drop box folder as well

Also re posting the link to my ongoing AAR for the Abyss Solium Infernum game. All done in the voice of Jon Irenicus. This is just in case people missed it, and enjoy reading Solium Infernum AARs.

Sorry for the delay in game and interaction. Tonight's the night where mlaskus' utter defeat will be imminent. Or something next to it.

Expect my turn and a more regular attendance after that in around 12 hours from now. ;)

You tried to steal my starting legion? I'm pretty sure that's impossible. You moved your weaklings to attack me in the same round as I went for your POP and my legion perished because of the support that your legion gave the POP.
