RIP Dennis Ritchie

Dennis Ritchie, computing pioneer, died yesterday aged 70.

The man's influence on modern computing is utterly inestimable. Creator of the C programming language and involved in the birth of UNIX, it's not unreasonable to say that if you've used a computer at all, or practically anything with an embedded processor, you've been touched by Ritchie's legacy.

Yeah, this hit me quite hard, too. Very sad to hear this. Maybe even more so because at first I only vaguely recognized the name, and then realized what amazing work he has done in his lifetime.
