Every now and again I get a bit blown away by incredibly cool life sometimes is. For example, I'm writing this from an underground library with broken lighting, trying to find a book on cyborg pornography by the light on my phone. It's like being a character in a book co-written by Phillip K Dick and H.P. Lovecraft.
Awesome!

I really enjoy moments like these. When you suddenly realize how super awesome technology is. My most recent one was sitting on a bench in a zoo and watching live TV on my phone.

I keep getting staggered by realising that I can store roughly half of the vinyl record collection my dad has spent 40 years building, which has well over a thousand disks in it, on my phone!

The latest moment like that for me was quite a dumb, but great one. My friend recently moved to London (from Ireland) and we were a bit depressed at the prospect of not getting to talk much, but he discovered a provider that offers 1p/minute calls to Irish landlines. While we were on the phone one day another friend rang my mobile, which he has free calls to, and I put both phones on loudspeaker. A conference of 2 mobiles and a landline all in different countries for 1p a minute... Life/technology is awesome

I'm currently talking to people from all over the world as casually as I'd pick up a news paper

When you turn 19 you'll get over the angst, kid, and realise it's not so bad.

One thing I like to do in forums is start from the beginning of a topic and treat all posts equally.

As this is necroed, then - went to a party last week, engaged in hijinks that I could only dream of a year or so ago.

Wow, that was uncalled for and added nothing whatsoever to the thread.

For me, it's pulling off a long downhill slide on my board.

The post before alex was today, 10.29 am.

Exactly the thread was necro'd. My entire point. Which make Mr Bakkes post all very much johnny come lately (regardless of his protestations). Still anything to spam for post I guess.... (awaits inevitable comment on that as well...*yawn*)

I'm fairly sure it was called for, after all he was responding to me (a month later).

Also did you rush your registration as a matter of interest? I'm sure Jim can fix your name for you

For me, it's pulling off a long downhill slide on my board.

What's a slide? Is it like, just rolling down the hill?

(Not that that's not cool, I genuinely want to know.)

Alex, sliding is basically pushing the nose or tail of the board out so you're going sideways down a hill:

Snowboarding. Oh, snowboarding. But it's too expensive a procedure for someone in Western Australia (unless you work on the slopes in New Zealand or something and get the free company ski lift pass). The most sublime act you can possibly perform, in terms of motion.

Also: Nice bookstores are astounding things.

tome, if there are any smooth enough hilly roads near you, you could look into getting a freebord: http://www.freebord.com/

I love a good library, which probably says something about me. They're not 'Fucking Cool', per say, but they are quite good.

Dope bubbles! FUCKING COOL! StrangLove: yeah, a couple of my friends tried them. They're so intense, though - I lack the balls to skid around with such limited control and at such speed over coarse, flesh-grindy tarmac. Also, the concept of having your feet kind-of-locked-in whilst being so invisible to cars is pretty worrying. So, yeah, I'm far too much a woman to try freebording. Great invention, though. Do you freebord?

StrangLove
07-07-2011, 08:48 PM
I longboard, Freebords are a tad expensive for me. You can still pull off some pretty good slides on them, which is close to snowboarding.

StrangLove: Ah, dope! I kind of longboard too (mostly just cruising, never can be bothered cleaning out my bearings so haven't taken done much in a while).
wcay: Apparently sandboarding's a bit poo, though :(. It's funny, though, because where I live is basically on massive ex-dunes, which've now become huge rolling hills; perfect for longboarding.
