In a few minutes EA will stream a half hour live demo of BF3's multiplayer. Is your body ready? You can watch it here (http://battlefieldo.com/) amongst other places.

The clips released yesterday were great, so you know this will be worth watching..

I wish they would actually show the footage of BF3.

Yeah, the singleplayer demo from EA's press conference is rolling now. I bet this will get milked and the interesting stuff will only be shown later on.

The hosts are hilarious btw. Two herp derp Airborne veterans who seem to have zero previous presenting experience.

Hahaha yeh. It's especially funny when they get somebody talking through the earpieces they have and then having this awkward pause while they're listening. Looks like they're lagging IRL.

lol yeah, they fall silent as soon as that happens. You can watch them listen to their instructions. "So my military background herp ... *suddenly much louder* And now we're going to my man Mortarman21 on the floor for an important derp!"

EDIT As consolation, an hour long interview with Gabe Newell:

This is definitely one of the worst streams I have ever had the misfortune of watching.

The only thing redeeming about it is the over-the-fat-guy's-shoulder footage and the so-bad-it's-hilarious interviewing/hosts.

Fun fact: I never watch the streams or trailers; just watch released in-game footage and read up on reports. Increases my enjoyment ten-fold.

I just hope they didn't make it too CoD-like, like that marketing dude said they would ('specifically designed to take down Call of Duty', I think he said). That was exactly the wrong thing to say. From what I've read so far, the changes to multiplayer compared to BC2 seem to genuinely be for the better, and I do have faith in DICE.

Still not sure it's enough for me not to go back to Battlefield 2 on occassion, but we'll see.

Game looks great, but i thought we were going to see full screen gameplay action not watching over some dudes shoulder on a display..

And i was hoping for some jet combat.

While I'm excited about BF3 I don't do live news straight from the publisher, because it wont even be funny like 3rd party live blogs can be.

IGN has a preview (http://pc.ign.com/articles/117/1172554p1.html) of BF3 multiplayer up with some interesting info:

The new, cheesy-sounding philosophy DICE is taking with Battlefield 3 is "Play it Your Way." While hollow PR babble on the surface, in practice it reflects their desire to make Battlefield as universally appealing to shooter fans as possible. To this end the levels will be varied, from giant stages full of jets and armored vehicles, to the more funneled stages like the Paris one I got to play.

...

Classes have also been redesigned in Battlefield 3, giving players new ways to customize their load outs to suit their play style. Riflemen now double as medics, healing players and reviving those who are downed. The Support class is now equipped with a light machinegun and ammo packs, the sniper is a long-range and demolitions expert, and the Engineer is the master of destroying and repairing vehicles. With weapon attachments players can adapt the classes to how they want to play, with Riflemen choosing things like underslung grenade launchers in place of advanced medical equipment, for instance.

...

Battlefield 3 takes this into account, and anyone firing a hail of lead near foes – something the Support class is especially good at, much more so with a fancy bi-pod attachment – will suppress the enemy. This not only garners points for the shooter, but dims and shakes the screen of those affected. Shooting to kill is an important role, but shooting to provide actual supporting fire is now emphasized as well.

...

DICE's commitment to making the experience better and better, were the inclusion of prone and the ability to opt out of revive. Prone could be dangerous to the balance, as it makes players incredibly hard to discern at a distance, but to balance this DICE is finding new ways to make the cost match the benefits. You might be harder to see, but your lens will flash if a player looks at it, and getting up and laying down takes time that will cost you if someone is close.

Suppressive fire? SUPPRESSIVE FIRE?!? About daaaamned time.

Suppresion fire is awesome. But better the spawn points are well designed (with lots of exits points), or I don't want to see spawncamping with lots of suppresion fire...

your lense will flash? whathell

Rossi

Thats actually quite a realistic effect. Lense flare from scopes is a sure fire way of giving away your position. Snipers usually have their scope covered with some opaque netting to prevent this and also only open the dust cover when they are about to fire. Dust covers for snipers would be a good option!

Maybe you should get less points for kills when prone, because they were obtained in favourable conditions.

I think you're missing the point.

Yeh, lets give them invisibility cloaks too!

Are you asking to not be seen while in the prone position? DICE obviously found there was a balance issue when players were prone. It make sense to redress the balance in a beleivable manner.

Rii

Are you asking to not be seen while in the prone position?

No, that sounded like what you were asking for, i.e. to have the option to be prone but with a dust cover on your scope. =/

I'm glad we agree that there are balance issues with prone though. Nice to see they've found ways to work around them and include it regardless.

Rossi
08-06-2011, 04:11 PM
I wasn't implying that the dust cover would be permanently on during the prone position. It could be popped open when you want to shoot. The downside would be the risk of the scope glinting and revealing your position. Keep it closed if you want to reduce that risk. ie, while crawling around.

Looks like my favourite class from BF2 just got a lot more awesome. That suppression mechanic for the support dude sounds very interesting.

It sounds mighty interesting Shaker, a big part of clan matches in BF2 was trying to suppress the enemy with the powerful Support class machineguns, this new feature makes it sound so much more relevant to the game.
