View Full Version : There's a new Jane's aircraft sim? Jane's Advanced Strike Fighters.

Well, sim might not be the right word, but it looks like something called Jane's Advanced Strike Fighter shipped this week. Any military gear buffs or computer game fans from the 90's should be familiar with the brand. EA had the license and no new games have come since 2001, I believe.

From the limited info I've found online, it looks more arcade like than past titles - like Ace Combat or HAWX. And since the new Ace Combat game (consoles only unfortunately) is the best arcade fighter jet I've ever played, I'm not expecting great things from JASF. Any RPSers know anything about it or played it yet?

I saw it on a torrents tracker recently, and it struck me as odd that it was under 1 GB in size. Maybe they're using amazing graphic compression/procedurally generated terrain. Just as a reference, HAWX 2 is 9 GB, and IL-2 Sturmovic Cliffs of Dover is 5 GB.

Is that not because it's the demo which was released recently?

Here is a link to the demo :-----------------
Does someone want to download it and report back?

Attempting to download that just takes me to some sort of gaming service called Schemegames, which if I didn't trust it by the dodgy linking I certainly don't once I read the name. The "official" site (http://www.evolvedgames.com/JASF-english.htm) has no news. Period. Least of all a mention of a demo. Likewise their completely vacant developers site, Trickstar Games (http://www.trickstargames.com/). The official site does however have a link to a .wmv file you can download. Someone else was nice enough to host it for them on Youtube.

My guess is after watching that, there is no demo. The 960MB torrent is the whole thing, and it's not even worth pirating let alone buying.

Looks like a modern-day Afterburner. For 10p-a-credit I'd probably give this a go.

Oh well. I guess this means we're now also allowed to add "Jane's" to that weekly conversation we have about the decline of great old PC gaming franchises...
