Ok it is not very much like, but same principle where you equip up to 2 spells and attack with them rather than something like say WoW were you have all your spells availabkle at one time. Also the Archery is similar to Skyrim and the melee is one button to block and one to attack.

Two Worlds 2 has a few appealing features, starting with the world itself. The two main islands you explore are fantasy Africa and fantasy China, which was a great change of pace from the typical fantasy England. Another great feature is the magic system, which lets you create your own spells by finding cards in the world. You adjust the target type, the effect, the intensity, stuff like that. And then you're summoning crazy scorpion monsters or shooting anvils at people. The quests are also pretty good. A couple memorable ones was a huge quest that had me diving into a number pitch-black labyrinths, where my torch was the only source of light, and one where an umbrella-seller's merchandise had become possessed and I had to put down the freaky demonic umbrellas. Another good feature was the crafting system, which used base components to upgrade any weapon you wanted. This meant every item you find has a use, as you can break them down to their components for use upgrading your primary weapon.
The world is open geographically, although divided into islands you have to do in order (you can go back after you leave one), but there isn't the structure that Skyrim has--no formal guild membership and progression, for example. But there are a lot of side quests and exploration can be rewarding. If you are down with the Euro jankiness of it all (also seen in Risen, for example), then it's a nice big RPG adventure.
Ooh. That Amazon deal for Combined Ops is better than what either Steam or Bohemia were offering previously, at least for me as a European. If Steam manages to top them (bottom them?) then I'm probably going to buy it.

Used it to buy Deus Ex: HR, Red Orchestra 2, The Witcher 2, Men of war: Vietnam, Skyrim, Dead Island, Battlefield 3, Guild Wars 2, and with a recent influx of credit got Battlefield Premium for $17.

The gap between their prices and Steam's is so wide that even if after trade-ins and coupons, Steam still got by far the best deals. I guess I was kinda expecting they would add trade-in value to the other games they gave away.

This is almost veering off topic, but there have been some really good deals on GMG, better than the same product on Steam for sure. But maybe this depends on where you live, I can get some of their catalogue in $ which adds value to me. What I wanted to say is yes, Steam has more breadth and Sales (Midweek, Daily, Weekend) but I wouldn't say the sales are worse (as far as the % off goes)
It may have to do with the titles I'm looking for and the fact I don't generally follow GMG's deals as close as Steam's, but consider this: I have 4.50 € and 20% coupons, as soon as Steam goes 60% off, the game's over. At 75% it didn't even start. I'd need many more trade-ins to tip the balance in favor of GMG.

That may very well be, I was just talking about the games that are on sale at a discount on GMG, like KoA or Fear 3, they are very good deals, Fear 3 matching and KoA besting Steams no discount at all at the moment, doubt they'll go lower than the GMG price. Having said that, this may depend on what games you're looking at and where you reside. GMG is not my go to place to purchase games, but it does have some pretty good deals from time to time. Rant over :)
Also, amazon.com will have Saints Row The Third for $9.99 on the 19th for 24h, just a heads up. This maybe a deal for the people living in the States, but for me it's cheaper now @7.49€,

Though I'm saving my GMG credit and a voucher to pick up The Secret World for £26. Well I would do that if GMG's borked payment processing system would let me even get to the checkout, for some reason this game and this game only will not let me get past the basket to the payment selection screen without page errors. Lots of comments on their forums from people with similar issues on other transactions. I'm on my third go-around with their customer support for help, the problem's definitely at their end. Some of GMG's prices can be good but their site payment system is sometimes flaky and their customer support is slow and not very effectual. I am about to give up and pay a bit more to get it from GG.

Well I got this game on trial back when it came out. First and foremost, there are no short races to choose from, there's two stars gone.
So I figure I'll give it a shot as some tall obnoxious being for a bit and not even a few minutes in, there's Gnomes. Ok...if you are going to put Gnomes into the lore, and then refuse to make them a playable race, why not just put on the box that they discriminate against height? "oh look, there's gnomes, BUT YOU CAN'T BE ONE!"
so there's another two stars gone.
I'm not entirely against a game having no short races, such as Skyrim. However, they are not in the lore, nor are they alive and well and walking around anymore (dwemer).
But to not only not have a playable short race, but then to include a short race within your game and lore is just unacceptable.
EA lost 39.99 back when the game came out. As for the developers...I dislike your style of discrimination.

Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition - $10.19 at Gamestop
http://www.gamestop.com/pc/fallout-new-vegas-ultimate-edition/99177
You have to install their software to get the Steam key.
I highly recommend this game, it's one of the gems of the last years.
To maximize your enjoyment of Fallout NV
1. Install the mods Project Nevada and New Vegas Bounties 1+2 (and the large community patch). They both add so much to the vanilla game without changing the core experience. I recommend them even for the first playthrough. They are similarly crucial like Stalker Complete Mods to the Stalkers.
2. Play the DLCs in the story-chronological order:
- Honest Hearts (which I found was the weakest one)
- Dead Money
- Old World Blues
- Lonesome Road

Gamersgate is having a pretty nice Anno sale this weekend. 1404/Dawn of Discovery Gold for $6, Anno 2070 for $20 (undercutting Steam's daily deal from earlier this week, and with one less DRM layer to boot). I can wholeheartedly endorse 1404 as a lovely little city builder, and I'll probably end up picking up 2070 for myself.

While Project Nevada is, indeed, essential I'll take strong issue with the notion that New Vegas Bounties is similarly so. It adds a bunch of boss fights. I guess if that's your thing, it's a nice one to have, but it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. So yeah, get PN and customize it to your liking (it's so flexible that it really is of value to anyone playing the game) but read over Bounties and see if it's something that appeals before installing. Personally, I don't run it.

New Vegas Bounties likes to put you in scripted fights that almost always start with you right in front of a boss with a ridiculously high health and armor. It gives you very little wiggle room and I found it absolutely tedious.

vinraith, could you recommend some settings for FWE? I was meaning to replay FO3 recently and I never tried it with FWE.
Uhh, I'd love to but it's been a couple of years, so to be honest I don't even remember what the options were. If you've been through FO3 once it should be pretty straightforward, I think, as you probably have some notion of what you wish were different. One thing I really liked was the motorcycle module, where fast travel is tied to repairing, fueling, and maintaining a motorcycle rather than just being magic. I'd strongly recommend enabling the survival stuff (hunger/thirst/sleep) if it's not the default, as well. Scrounging through old bombed out buildings for primary needs while being hunted by ghouls is a good time.
Honestly, in the newest version I'm not even sure the setting options are the same as they were for me. I'm sorry I can't be more help, I need to replay it again sometime soon and see what the final version of FWE changed.
mlaskus
19-07-2012, 08:40 PM
Thanks anyway. :)
That motorcycle sounds like way too much work for me, I'm lazy enough to like automagical fast travel.
I do like to play with the resources as scarce as possible though and I decrease the carrying capacity and the amount of health for everyone. This worked brilliantly for me in Nevada.

Crusader is awesome. The biggest things to remember when playing Stronghold though are 1. You need lots and lots of farms. Probably 3 out of every 8 new people with each new hovel should be farmers. At least that's how I usually play and 2. You need a massive army to take down your opponents once their castles are built. Once a good castle has been raised and about 10 archers have been placed, with braziers and all (oh, ALWAYS place braziers where you station your archers on walls. Flaming arrows do a lot more damage and braziers are free), it's pretty hard to survive.

Earlier, I tried to buy the Last remnant from GMG and got a message saying transaction failed. I opened up a support ticket but the guy said they are not accepting my order and closed my inquiry without elaborating the reason.
Just now I tried buying Jade Empire from steam using the same CC and got a message that the bank put my CC on hold or something.
The only good thing is this didn't happen during the summer sale.

More deals incoming on Amazon for 7/26 to 7/30, apparently (Neogaf). Of interest to me is the Total War collection (including the Shogun stuff) for $30. IIRC, Steam had some Total War bundles, but not one that included both the Medieval/Rome/etc. and Shogun titles.

Spec Ops: The Line is also going back down to $25.
I can reccomend Spec Ops at that price. Mechanically, it's not am amazing game, in fact it falls short of average in a few places. But on the whole, I really enjoyed the story it told, and I think it's worth experiencing simply for that. Add it to the list of "games serious gamers should try at some point" along side Mirrors Edge, Vampire: Bloodlines, STALKER, Dear Esther, etc.
It's a game that's not perfect, but it does somthing different, and it does it well enough to warrant seeing imo.

The Last Remnant is interesting and clever, but somewhat flawed. In particular, it takes a while before it opens up enough flexibility in creating your little army that it gets interesting, and the main character is... how did I describe him before? The most annoying in any game I kept playing. He's got his heart in the right place, but he is so stupid and ignorant.
Both of these recede as the game goes on, and then you have a really interesting take on the JPRG. You have a much larger party than normal, organised into a number of squads. You give these squads general instructions like "use magical attacks" or "heal another squad", and each member of the squad decides which of their abilities to use on their own. They'll even react to changing circumstances- say if you tell them to use combat arts, and they finish off their opponents early, members who haven't acted may decide to throw a heal or a long range attack instead.
It's also very pretty indeed, with wonderful animations. Even the cutscenes, when Rush isn't talking, are beautifully made.
For that price it's worth a shot.

DiRT 2 on Steam for €5 is definitely worth picking up if you're at all interested in racing games. It severs its ties to earlier more serious rally games from the series, but it's quite competent at what it sets out to do. There's a nice variety of races, cars, tracks and environments to race around in. Recommended!

I've written about The Last Remnant at length before so do a quick search if you want more detail. I'd say for anyone to pick it up if they don't mind JRPGs and to at least consider it even if they don't - as (whiny protagonist aside) it's pretty atypical.

Interestingly enough, originally they planned to have the conqueror as main character for the western release but for some reason (mainly budget restrictions, I guess) it didn't happen. Squenix later did that for the console-only Nier, though.
Honestly, I would pay real money if it would let me play as the conqueror.

The X series superbox which includes all of the X games is 75% off on Steam at £9.99 at the moment.
I'm tempted by this, but would value some opinions before taking the plunge. I haven't played any of the X games before but I enjoyed Freelancer and similar. Is it worth picking up either the bundle or just one of the games or should I give it a miss?

Either pick X3: Terran Conflict or Albion Prelude (no personal experience on this) since they are the most recent ones and the older ones only have less things. That said, you may want to give it a miss anyway. X series is intriguing and all that, but it really takes forever to get anything done and it doesn't really excel in any area either. It's diverse and occasionally deep but clunky and just as difficult to get in to as Dwarf Fortress. The UI is horribad and makes managing the growing assets a pain later on. If it sounds like something you might enjoy and you think you can put tens of hours into it in a relatively small timeframe, go for it. Just remember to open up the wiki whenever you start up the game.

I think Freelancer sets a really high bar for UI. I haven't tried the X series yet, but in my recent quest to find something newer in the genre to scratch the itch FL created I've been continually rebuffed by bad UI and the sense that no one learned from FL's fantastic example. I eventually gave up.

Thanks for the thoughts. Perhaps if I had got into the series when I was at school I'd have enjoyed it, but I don't really have the time to focus on the game in the way that you suggest would be necessary jnx. Ah well, maybe I'll just re-install Freelancer instead!

EDIT: I guess not.
I just tried this somewhat shady cdkey selling site (http://www.intkeys.com). Haven't used any of those earlier but these things I bought are supposed to activate on steam. We'll see later I guess. you should make sure that the keys you're buying are region-free, though. or else you should have a vpn with the proper ip address for the activation process.

Well so far good I guess. I got the Gods and Kings key in about 3 hours but am still waiting for the Spec Ops key. They are supposed to give extra 10% discount though if it takes longer than 24 hours. Checked, these both were region free and steam activate.

I don't play a lot of 3rd person shooters. Did play through some of this one and enjoyed it. The levels are large and the enemies were a bit repetitive, but there is fun to be had. Transforming does seem useful to get up a good speed and reach certain areas, also fun to ram through baddies. Game has a good feel to it. Would go back and play more if I had the chance.

GMG only offer the discount on the digital bonus overpriced bollocks edition in the UK atm £45 less their 'discount' of £4.50 still makes it stupidly expensive.

This Wolfenstein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfenstein_%282009_video_game%29)? It was €5,- on Steam this February; at least that's what my 'list of games' tells me. Perhaps it was some kind of going out of business sale. Anyway, I thought it was quite forgettable, though still enjoyable.

I thought the big user patch for Gothic 3 (which I'm told is the only thing that makes it playable) now covered Forsaken Gods as well?
Not quite, it's a little confusing with the whole Enhanced Edition labeling, but there's currently 4 ways you can muck about with the Gothic 3 world.
Vanilla Gothic 3 - Full game by PB, very buggy on release.
Gothic 3 with CPT - Same game as Gothic 3, almost all bugs gone.
Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods - Expandalone where they removed 2/3 of the map, different quests and storyline, also very buggy on release.
Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition - Forsaken Gods with a patch made by the CPT. However, this time they were paid to do so and the game was re-released with this patch.
Also, the latest version of the Gothic 3 CPT was a paid effort, and on Steam and on GOG it should be built in. Not sure about Gamersgate.

Wow, ok, that is confusing. So you're essentially saying that Gothic 3 with CPT is the best of those options, because FG actually removed a bunch of content?
I've got Gothic 3 on GOG, so if CPT is in-built that's outstanding. How would I check that?
Thanks!

There are 3 tells on the main menu screen:
1) Top center will have the version number. Current CPT will say is pb/cpt/sb v.1.75.14
2) In between "A Piranha Bytes Game" and "Gothic 3" it will say "Enhanced Edition" (just to make it more confusing)
3) At the bottom will be a toggle for "Alternative Balancing"

IIIiiiii knoww its not really a bargain, but we don't really have a simple buying games thread ("Your Haul" maybe?). What is the "additional discount" on the quakecon bundle if you pre-order Dishonoured?!
Bethesda has essentially the same package, sans Skyrim and RAGE, for $60 last year. It also came with a bunch of TF2 hats that I traded for other games.

Morrowind was indeed €4.99 in the summer sale. It seems most of the current games on sale are a little pricier than the summer sale.

If I understand the graph here, http://www.steamprices.com/eu/app/22320/the-elder-scrolls-iii-morrowind-game-of-the-year-edition , correctly, it was 5€ in the sale. At least on one day of it.
Those Quakecon discounts are rather underwhelming (or maybe it's just that the prices for those games seem generally rather unreasonable).

Morrowind has been cheaper, but it's still well worth it. It's not as slick as Oblivion or Skyrim (the most common complaint is the lack of physical connection in the combat) but it still beats them both hands down in world design.

I picked up Morrowind in the sale. I'm waiting for latest overhaul graphics mod to be released before I jump in. Is it worth experiencing the game in all its clunky glory, or are there some balance or quality of life mods that one shouldn't be without? I've looked into the various mod sites and I find the endless lists of mods... intimidating.

This (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/07/31/the-slightly-less-elderly-scrolls-morrowind-overhaul-3-0/) should be good enough for it. It will include fixes, wich should make the game much more playable.
Impulse/GameStop are doing rage for £4.41 in the UK atm (country-dependent links so I'll not make one).
Steamworks - tho the shop says that it 'requires GameStop App' too
Update: You NEED the GameStop App just to get the key for Steam - no really, you do!!!
I'm guessing Steam will have Rage on sale for a daily over the weekend - having dropped it's price to £12.99 it's £9.odd at 25% off right now - but it's doubtful whether it would be cheaper than this!?
p.s. it seems UK customers cannot use PayPal for this, it says "not available in your region" if you try. Paying with a card (debit or credit) works AOK tho
p.p.s. When I registered it on Steam, it came up as "Rage with Sewers" - I think that's the name which should have been on the box! :)

On the off chance that you enjoy Diablo-like action RPG's and haven't played Titan Quest, the Steam daily deal price for the gold version is an outstanding bargain. As an added bonus, it's got my favorite skill system out of any game in its subgenre.
Edit: It's about the same price on Gamersgate today, incidentally, if you're not a Steam fan.

Indeed, RAGE is today's Quakecon weekend deal, though it's only 50% off... I was hoping for a 75% discount, but, as during the summer sale, it's 10€. I'd buy it from GameStop, but... Well, just NO.

A quick question about Fallout 3 GotY on Steam: That version still has GfWL, yes? Is it one of those cases where the DLC's require you to enter codes into GfWL to activate?
I'd consider picking it up for $6 if it was more convenient to manage than my disc version, but if it's the same deal there's obviously no point.

okay, it installs all the DLCs along with the main game (they're unticked by default in the "Data Files" section of the launcher). Anchorage, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, The Pitt and Zeta are there and that should be all of them, I think.
There is a 'multiplayer' key (Steam pop up when you run the game), which I assume is for GFWL, but I wasn't prompted to enter it (I played until the G.O.A.T. test) and while it does install GFWL when you first run the game, it seems like you can just ignore it; there's no pop up or anything and saving works fine without it too, so it may not even run GFWL at all. My saves are in [user]\Documents\My Games\Fallout 3\Saves\, so there's no fishiness there either.
There's a "LIVE" option on the main screen and I assume it's for running GFWL for those who want it and then you probably need to enter the key (it's possible achievements need it to be running, not sure).
So it seems like an all-in-one solution and like you don't have to fiddle with GFWL unless you for some reason want to.

If you intend to mod Fallout 3, mod it early. There's things like that require the Fallout script extender which breaks Games for Windows Live, so don't be like me, play for 10 hours, realize you're tired of stuttering that the engine sometimes causes, find the fix, and then realize your save games are now gone because GFWL is disabled. Killed any enthusiasm I had at the moment.
vinraith
04-08-2012, 10:13 PM
Yeah, the script extender doesn't so much "break" GfWL is remove it, but you definitely want to make sure you install that before you start a game! Personally, I'd never think of playing FO3 without Wanderer's Edition, so it would never come up for me anyway.
I'm just looking for an easier install. It sounds like the Steam version does, indeed, provide that. That might be worth $6 to me, especially given how much I enjoy the game. Thanks for the information, Similar!

It's a mod collection, and is fairly comprehensive. It's designed to be compatible with a few other mods, if you look at the documentation you'll see the list, and those are worth considering. I'd also recommend "DC interiors" for some extra exploration, but it's not critical. Wanderer's Edition is sufficient on its own, IMO, but other stuff can be nice too. If you've not played the game before, though, WE is probably all I'd recommend.

I say play it vanilla. Wanderer's Edition will make the gameplay more interesting and in most cases much better, but it will also make the game harder/longer and FO3 isn't the sort of game you want to make harder or longer. Its writing/story is shit and its world is boring so I don't understand why anyone would want to spend more time in it. I say just rush through the vanilla version so you can get to FO:NV.

Vinraith, I recently installed FO3 GOTY from Steam and modded it extensively. There is one thing you should watch out for, files from the Steam version have modification date set to the day you downloaded them from Steam. When you install mods and the older files get invalidated - the vanilla files will be the ones that get loaded.
So, download the game, start it once, exit, modify the metadata of all files then start modding - if you are looking for convenience this may not be the best choice.

I really cannot disagree with this more.
Frankly, if you believe that, it'd be better not to play it at all. I think the world is fantastic. I've spent 200+ hours in it, have seen maybe half of it, and am itching to go back. Wanderer's Edition makes the game harder, certainly, which it badly needs. It also makes survival a primary gameplay element, which makes just about everything about the world more interesting, as there's a much greater drive to explore outside the main plot. "Rushing through the main plot" is the last thing you ever want to do in a Bethesda RPG, as main plots are by far the weakest elements of the game. Wander, explore, get yourself into situations you can't handle, find weird sutff in the nooks and crannies of the map, that's what these games are for. Bethesda builds great worlds, in part, because of all the wonderful unexpected things they stick in out-of-the-way places that the plot and side quests would never tell you to go.
Seriously, you'd be better off completely ignoring the main plot than following this advice, IMO. To each their own, I suppose.

Yes, you will be able to mod the game after this. Leaving the date as is, you would still be able to install mods and they would work but there would be missing textures, meshes and some such.
I just checked and Fallout did not complain about me running the game on September 5th 2000. I don't think it should complain if the files are too old either, I can't check it easily right now. I wouldn't want to overwrite dates on my modded files.

I'm kind of curious about that myself (haven't played it). I loved the second Dungeon Siege game (which was a party-based Diablo-like that was definitely mostly about twatting monsters over the head, albeit with some of the best tactics and mechanics I've seen in a game of this sort) but my understanding that this shares a name and nothing else with the rest of the franchise. However, it is an Obsidian title, so I'd like to know whether the lack of Dungeon Siege's (IMO) outstanding mechanics is compensated for by the story and character stuff that Obsidian usually does well?

Dungeon Siege 3. (This was one of my favorite games of 2011).
1) Forget the fact that it is an "action-rpg." It isn't, really. It's more of a brawler-RPG. You have direct control over your character (very important!), there aren't a huge tree of skills to choose from (each character has nine), and the loot is pretty straightforward. How you physically control your character in combat is as important as as how you have him configured.
2) Play with a controller.
3) Open up the in-game help and take a look what what the stats actually do. They are weird.
4) The story & dialogue is OK. Certainly not up with Obsidian's best, but far, far ahead of Diablo 3. The acting and writing are solid, and the story gets better as it goes on. But definitely not worth playing for the story.
5) Play the demo!
I've beaten Dunegeon Siege 3 twice, and couldn't get more than four hours into Diablo 3.

People who liked the first two should look elsewhere, since Obsidian took over from Gas Powered Games they changed everything that was cool about the DS games, it's also a direct and bad port from the consoles.
Co-op and exploring was one of the things I enjoyed but DS3 doesn't have either anymore.

Wait, did Dungeon Siege 2 actually get good later? The intro part of DS2 was interesting but then my guys got beaten and wake up in some elf camp as a prisoner. Huh, well shit. I may give it another go some day. Which is odd to say as for so long that game has been my example of an "Oh dear sweet christ not more of this" RPG. I was probably being unfair when I first played it, as I am to various other games which have caught me at bad times. For example, I got sick of Fallout 3 within 3 hours of playing, yet I stuck over 100 hours int Oblivion and Skyrim.
DS3
All I wanted was a kill-level-loot-equip game to pass the time - I was willing to ignore the fact it perhaps wasn't a Dungeon Siege game (although 1 and 2 are radically different games in themselves) - I was willing to deal with a crap story etc. etc.
Good News
Story was fine as far as I got with it - locations were interesting, characters look OK, enough dialog to build the story without boring you to death etc. etc.
Bad News
Everything else!!
Put simply, equipment and levelling don't have anything like enough of an effect on your character (IMO). At one point I took off all my armor/gear and barely noticed a difference (I died quicker but damage didn't seem greatly effected).
The skills systems are super-dumbed-down and also feel gutless. You pretty much get locked-into certain paths from early on but even then you never feel like you're scoring anything really useful.
AI sidekicks are BREATHTAKINGLY dumb - this game has co-op and really, really needs it (although IIRC only one person can take their experience from the co-op game!?!?)
I gave up, eventually - I play games like this to
a - see how they pan out
b - get more POWAH and LOOT
the latter just doesn't happen, at least not at any appreciable level - the former wasn't interesting enough on it's own to ensure the grind...
It takes real talent to put in the level of work which has gone into this and not notice that the core game is fundamentally broken - and it is.

CSGO pre-orders launched (http://store.steampowered.com/app/1800/). The entire CS series is on sale for 66% off if you get the pack. All but CSGO are on sale for 66% off if you don't get the pack.
Payday is also 75% off (http://store.steampowered.com/app/24240/).
Payday is a great time. Not too happy that they're charging for the DLC, though. Has that ever worked out for a game with a small playerbase?

In this case it doesn't really matter. Everyone has the data downloaded in a patch, and you can actually play the DLC missions as long as the host has the DLC. You just cant host them and don't get the items for yourself.
So unlike something like Space Marine DLC where it split the player base badly, this wont really split the player base at all. You'll probably just find people who have the DLC become really popular for hosting.
Hmm, you're right. The wording was a little confusing.
Carry on, then, Overkill.

It might be worth risking at GMG's 2 Euro, but I wouldn't pay more than that.
I mostly remember it as being an extremely annoying game and I don't think I made it through more than maybe the two first missions before giving up on it.
It is recommended by a surprising number of people on Steam, so maybe I completely missed something, but I kind of doubt it.

I don't think Capsule is intrusive at all, it's basically only a downloader and install manager, and I think it's fairly lightweight, but it's annoying as hell, just so clunky and pointless, I wonder why they don't use installers like on gamersgate.
While we're at it: For a site to completely not work with the Opera browser seems like an anachronism, but Greenmangaming.com still manages.

And while I'm at it, does GMG usually have DRMs like SecuROM attached to games that would have them otherwise (even if said game didn't have it on Steam)?

Capsule is not needed for running. You may need to make a shortcut to the game, which will be in program files/capsule games/ what ever game it is you got
Wayward
08-08-2012, 12:18 PM
Capsule is a fairly lightweight client that functions mostly as a downloader. To my knowledge, for Sniper you wouldn't need to use it again, though if you wanted a 'clean' uninstall you would have to keep Capsule on your system and use it to uninstall game.
A bunch of our games use SecuROM where other sites don't. This is because the trading mechanic requires a modified version of SecuROM to function, and Sniper is a tradable game. Non-tradable titles use what DRM publishers specify, or no DRM at all.

Lots of Kalypso games are discounted over the weekend. If you're into arcade racing games, I can recommend giving SkyDrift (http://store.steampowered.com/app/91100/) a look - it's currently on sale for €5,-. It's a MarioKart with planes, a Blur without wheels. In any case, I thought it was good fun. It also has some multi-player features, but I don't imagine them being very active these days.

I never got the Big Bang Racing Demo to start, then found dozens of people on the Steam forums with the same problem and didn't bother with it afterwards. A shame, because it looked quite nice and could have been fun.
Dungeons: The Dark Lord, the sequel to Dungeons, is on sale for €3,79. I figured it was low enough to give it a try, but haven't yet played it.

I haven't played Dungeons, or the expac. But the gist I got from all of the reviews is that it's not Dungeon Keeper, and that you'll likely only be disappointed with the game if you've had previous experience with the dungeon Keepers.

No. It's still on for that price now, and it is listed as a top summer sale game, rather than a daily deal. So I suspect it will either last til the end of the week (whenever Gamersgate's weeks begin) or til the end of the summer sale (currently week two of four).

Bought about 8 different Steam games from them over the past year(?) and have no complaints. You may hear some stirrings at present about people not having received their Darksiders 2 key after receiving an email that they've been sent out. I wouldn't let this put you off though, the game isn't released yet, just available for pre-load.
I've no interest in their capsule client for games they host themselves so can't comment on it apart from recalling someone saying it's more a download/install client than always on. Apparently they use Securom to manage their trade-in system.

GMG had a 25% off code several days ago. I finally caved on Dark Souls but when I went to order they had trouble processing for whatever reason. When I tried again, the code was no longer valid. Was this a sign? Well, no, I don't believe in signs, but I was counting on that $10 off as compensation for dealing with GFWL. I'll hold out for a sweeter deal; there doesn't seem to be any shortage of them over there.

If you use GamersGate, and have the 15% IGN discount, it's possible to get Dark Souls for less than $30, as they give 10% blue coins for this preorder and the usual 5% blue coins. It's SteamWorks anyway, and as a bonus, it's currently available in some countries where the Steam version is not.

It's because EA hates all non north americans. On steam, those who pay with US dollars, pay three times as much for Dead Space 2, 50% more for a lot of other EA games, and, while Dragon Age and it's expansion are available, ultimate is not (and each costs as much as ultimate). They also default to the Euro price on Origin except for UK and NA, and their sales there are regional. It's possible that they found out that regional sales do not devalue their IP, but I think everyone should just buy EA games on retail.

There are an EPIC amount of patches for CoH - I have an original 'boxed' version and to install and patch it involves downloading about twice it's entire size in patches - it takes HOURS.
Steam used to be worse tho - when a patch was released, it just re-downloaded the whole thing!!
That said - as a 'dead' game, I guess it's just one download these days?
I'd certainly beware getting an earlier version - you will spend more time patching than you do playing!
