View Full Version : Skyrim player profiles?

Ahoy ahoy!

Mrs The Tupper (who graciously bought me the game a couple of weeks ago) wants try her hand at Skyrim. She's not a gamer (MyFaceSpace treadmills don't count), so I'm keen to use her interest as an opportunity to drag her over to our side, as it were.

Do any of you fine people know of a way to have two different player characters active at the same time without overwriting each other? Something akin to different player profiles, whereby she could play her own game in the scarce minutes that I'm not using my PC? She's got a laptop PC but it's not up to playing any modern game, so buying her own copy isn't an option.

Thanks in advance.

TT

Why would just having different save files not work?

Why would just having different save files not work?

From what I can tell, the save files I've made already (for my own purposes) are anonymous, with no labels beyond simple location and date information. I don't know (and am not currently willing to risk) if starting a new game would overwrite or, with multiple characters, make such files so confusing to be of no use when I go back to the game. Also, the quicksave would inevitably be overwritten in such an instance.

From what I can see, the auto and quick save will always be whoever played it last, but the manually created 00# files will stack indefinitely and can be for different characters.

So easy answer would be to simply make sure each of you do a manual save at the end of each play session and then you two can go back and forth at will. It's interesting that the game automatically makes 001 a save of the non-player configured Nord so you can easily make another character.

No-idea-if-it-is-easy answer: Use this mod which creates separate player profiles (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15), but I haven't tried it so you're on your own :)

Hey, that looks like it might be precisely the thing I was looking for. I'll try it out later - thanks very much for the advice.

Here's how you can give your saves more distinct names:

1) Bring down the console.
2) Type save SaveName (where SaveName, is, of course, the name of your save).
3) Close console.

I don't know why Bethesda doesn't allow us to name our saves without using the console.
