I know this isn't strictly about PC gaming. But Desktops are what make our PCs ours. They are our blank canvas. Our feature wall to be changed at the drop of a hat or take hours setting up perfectly. To be as basic as you want. Or to be customised to a blink of its existence. This is mine (http://i.imgur.com/zIhx1.jpg). Before you ask, yes it's double monitors. And no they are not the same size.

But anyway. Fellow RPS'ers What does your desktop look like?

Too lazy to take a screenshot, but it is a collection of random work files, defender's quest and spirit engine 2 installers, leftover shortcuts to Bashi Blocks and Minecraft, some schubert and schumann song clips, and a .zip of these chiptunes (http://www.last.fm/music/Jay+Tholen/The+Old+Testament) based on the Old Testament. Indeed. Fences, lovely Fences. Now my desktop is the sleek, Tardis-blue wonder that I'd always wanted but could never manage thanks to my inherent messiness.

If only there was a version for my real life desktop.

Which, on reflection, is probably the single most facile, predictable thing anyone has ever said after installing Fences - similar to someone saying "wouldn't it be great if all this money was real?" while playing Monopoly. Bah.

In full HD (1920 x 1080) that image is 4.17 screens wide by 7.41 screens tall (with the taskbar hidden). That would be a rather large monitor! My monitor is 18.875" wide by 10.4375" tall (21.5" diagonal), so an LCD of the same capabilities (but full 8000 x 8000 resolution) would have to be 78.71" (6.56 feet) square, or 111.31" (9.28') diagonal!

I'd forgotten about the NASA's Astronomy Photo of the Day page. I was saving my favorites for use as desktop images for a long time at work, then changed jobs and forgot to go back. But I still have tons of images of galaxies, nebula, the planets, asteroids, and a wide range of astronomical images that I've been moving from drive to drive. I occasionally even choose the overall folder of images (which I've sorted into sub-folders by type) for my background and/or photo screensaver, but right now they're all just sitting idle. And now that you've reminded me of the site, I'm going to have to kill several hours going through the ones I've missed over the past few years and saving more images!

Anywhat, here's my current desktop:

It's busier than usual because I've got a backlog of sites/videos/etc. to look through from while I was in school. I don't like it that busy, so I'm going to be clearing out nearly all of the Chrome bookmarks, but the rest will stay.

So I have nothing to show, other than a default Windows 7 desktop, with default background image. Not even the icons on the desktop are interesting. As I don't use that for anything, is just a mix of miscelanea.

Maybe I sould change, and use something like Althea image as background. I like cats.

Annoyingly, he has disabled the downloads for some of the full-size versions, meaning that you have to follow more links to get to a proper download.

Other pictures include some of the Stalker concept art posted on RPS somewhat recently, as well as a Minecraft creeper picture (That's a very nice everything you have there....).

Huuuu, that IS a beauty of an image! I've yoinked it of course, but what part of the sky is that? It looks kind of like a Hubble Deep Field but with stars instead of galaxies.

Nothing nearly as deep. It covers Cassiopeia and Cephus - the original description (and a labelled image) is at http://wise.ssl.berkeley.edu/gallery_fireworks.html

it is rather weird, I would of expected more people to be using things like Rainmeter and Rocket dock like I am. But I admit, I am one of those fences guys! but if you just wanted to hide your icons you could just right click on your desktop, clicked view and then "show/hide desktop icons".

I considered installing fences again, since they are pretty convenient, and my laptop's icons tend to be all jumbled up when I move from my at home resolution to my laptops on the go rez.

Did they ever fix that problem with the icons falling out of the fences on Win 7?

This spans two 1680x1050 monitors on my desk. The CRX wasn't my favourite spot from the weekend I spent at the Nürburgring but this was one of the few photos I took that really worked when cropped like that. I really need to tidy my desktop again because it looks so much nicer like that. I think I might look through my photos and find a new panorama actually. In case you're wondering this was taken with an EOS 5D with a 200mm f2.8L lens, which I no longer have... Sold to fund my PC build!

Oh and my PC's desktop is the W7 default, because I use my PC like this:
Press power button
Enter password
Click on Steam icon
Click game
Click play
-or-
Click Safari (yeah, and?)
Type 'battlelog.battlefield.com' into address bar
Etc
Play
Exit
Turn off PC.

Also Seven Samurai, nice. I'm literally right on the edge of watching that, I just need to find 3 spare hours, make sure no one else is home, kill this bloody bird that will not stop screaming and somehow silence some guinea pigs. I'm thinking cotton pad slippers.

I'm using DisplayFusion (http://www.displayfusion.com/), though mainly for it's multi-monitor features. As far as your request goes; it allows you to queue up wallpapers and/or entire folders, set a duration after which it will switch to a new wallpaper, which it can do randomly or on alphabetic order. It sadly doesn't allow you to rotate the images based on the system clock, but apparently this program (http://www.nuonsoft.com/wallpapercycler/)does, though I haven't tried that.

Marginal upscaling tends to work a bit better than going the whole hog I find.

Certainly I could. However anything decent takes time, and that's not something I have a lot of unfortunately at present. My recommendation would be to browse deviant art: -
