Well, at least a sign of EA and Valve getting to some sort of agreement maybe, would be nice.

And if it was anything negative meant with this, it's pretty wired, since most of us accept that we have to use Steam to play Skyrim even if I bought it on GamersGate and a bunch of other games, accept one evil, you kinda need to accept them all.

So long as I can buy it on the digital distribution platform of my preference, I'll play it. Since I can't buy ME3 or BF3 or any of those """"AAA"""" games where I want... I'll pass on playing em. I have a lot of other games I can play either on Steam or GoG. Hopefully this will set the way to more Origins games on Steam.

It requires an EA/Origin ACCOUNT, it does not require the Origin client and according to some posts on the steam forum, it runs off Steam like every other game once you register you account. I don't think it is that bad.
I'm pretty much a Steam fanboy and I'm perfectly OK with this, and hope it means more EA games on there.
We don't make such a deal about all the Steamworks games out there

Nothing negative Mr. First Post Origin Defender. All we need now is a developer to release a game on Steam that requires that you agree to EA's Origin EULA but can only be played on a third client. Unless this has happened already?

So to play Warp we need an Origin account. So we have to create an Origin account before we can play the game on Steam?

Yeah, basically. I know it's far from ideal but that's the way things work today. If you buy a Steamworks games on GamersGate, Amazon or any other digital distribution service you will need two accounts aswell.
It's the same way Bioshock or Batman made you create a GFWL account or Dead Space made you create an EA account. I don't like it either but it's not new.
Also don't take my word for it, I didn't buy the game (but I'm very intereted) this is all from this thread: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2609607&page=3

Also why the hell does Origin think that because I live in a spanish speaking country I must be charged in Euros? I live in South America, of all places. Plus they use some genius conversion system where $1 = €1. So if I want to buy Warp from Origin it will be AR$ 58 and if I get it from Steam it's AR$ 44.
Also recently Steam applied some regional pricing to my country and I get some Valve, 2K and Rockstar games a little bit cheaper. Go Steam.

Dirt3 is on Steam but requires (and patches through) GFWL - the DLC is also exclusive to GFWL and FUCKING expensive (and built into the game in a way that 100% completion is not possible without buying it).

That's quite fucked-up - tho several other Steam games require GFWL as well as Steam - so asking for Origin wouldn't be that odd...

And I thought it was bad that Origin (still!) refuses to let me even view the English-language store, despite tempting me with a "country selector" at the top which has no effect. But charging Euros in a non-Euro country is nonsensical, unless maybe they're handling their South American business through Europe? I dunno.

I have the exact same problem as Sopabuena (being an Argentinean guy. Erm... I mean... the prices. Yes. That's the problem.) with Origin. And my second biggest gripe is the store in my native language as pkdawson said. Sure... it's nice they translated it... but at least lemme select the store language I want and make it work.
Not to mention the client itself and its problem... I already deal with steam (but at least that one provides better prices, nice customization features and others), I can't be bothered with Origin too >.<

Weird, because here in Brazil the store is in reais. But I haven't seen anything different on Steam for us.

I think it may be something more foolish like Spanish = Spain = Europe

Being that we're talking about American companies, not being able to read a globe cannot be ruled out.

I don't think so. Well, unless UK customers have to pay in US$ as well, that is...

Origin does allow to the choose where you want to install your games. instead of the stupid long program files/steam/steamapps/common/

Just count yourselves lucky you aren't in japan... very limited catalog available, no special offers, most games (including older titles) well over 60 quid.

If you bought an EA game in the last 8 years or so and registered it online, you already have one.

If it required Origin, it wouldn't be on Steam.

It's EA's cut-and-paste EULA stuff. It's said it on other games before.

Actually, it's very strange for an American company to automatically assume "Spanish" equals "Spain." We have far more contact with Central & South American nations--which are predominately Spanish-speaking--than Spain.

True, but I still prefer Steam over Origin in the end due to other features and better/frequent sales.

In your situation, if you usually buy games, it may be well worth it to hire a UK VPN server? I -think- they're not too expensive (something like 4 quid a month?) and from what I know, it's good enough to trick Steam into thinking you're connecting from wherever the VPN server is. Not sure how well Steam would react if they find out, though...

I know, I was just joking. But when Origin fist launched I remember it automatically redirected me to the spanish (as from Spain) site, probably just for convenience porpouses, but it was kinda weird. I figured that was why I saw all of prices in Euros. But now I'm being labeled as "Rest of the world" and the prices are still in Euros.
Anyway, I'm sure they don't ignore basic geography, but charging a third world country in Euros doesn't speak wonders about their knowledge of world economy

yep, Agreed, there's no contest.

Steam's recent screenshot feature is godly, Origin prevents me from making awesome ME3 Co-op screenshots.

Origin uses IP detection to determine your location. If there's no Origin store for your locale (e.g. most of south America), it will default you to a supported locale which uses the same language, so you end up on the Spanish store. If there's no locale with a matching language (e.g. Latvia), you get defaulted to the Irish store and have to work in English and Euros.

Just wait until Origin makes a deal with GFWL, and we're there.

I wasn't so off then, just because we speak spanish we must pay in Euros, like in Spain. It seems pretty damn arbitrary to me, specially since there is no acurate conversion rates ($1=€1). What Steam does is detecting you language, showing the site in your language and then charge you according to your nearest pricing zone, in my case Brazil, wich is in dollars but with adjusted prices.

In contrast, the EA Origin India site has prices in rupees, and those prices are LOW. I got the N7 Digital Deluxe Edition of ME3 for ~A$38. I think the Indian site makes a tremendous amount of sales, just because the prices are somewhat reasonable.

So if it has a server dependency and login requirement to another service just to play the game in single player, why should I even consider buying this game on Steam?
