I enjoy (mostly) lurking these forums on a daily basis, but for the bast few days the spambot army hit us hard. Isn't there anything that can be done about it?

Some tool thinks that this forum is a film/tv forum.
@the tool; This is not a film/tv forum.

Unfortunately they're humans and not bots, which makes them a little trickier to eradicate.

Damned Robot collaborators. When we purge the bots from this world it'll be their turn.

That's the reason our posts have to be approved manually to be uploaded for public view?
Edit: oops, i see. Only starting thread requires approval, replying doesn't.

In a thread complaining about bots, you think that's the real Jim?

Guess they changed things. Have to wait 30 seconds between posts, and some comments have to be approved manually. Not sure what the rules are for the latter, I just replied to a thread and was told my comment had to be approved. It would be faster to send e-mails now methinks.
Edit: Think they're still messing around with the settings as we speak, so we'll see where we end up.

The antispam thingy needs to learn. You are helping it train (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WpwmAhho37A#t=185s).

Ironically, you often need to employ robots to eradicate humans.

I've been subject to the 'moderator approval' message several times today.

This is a bit odd right now, replied to a thread, it didn't post, ok second go, now it tells me I gotta have 30s between posts...fine, thought the post appeared, but no, tried to reply through "Go Advanced" and now it's up for approval, a bit tedious, but all for the greater good I hope.

Yeah, when someone else mentioned M-Turk the other day it sounded like they'd probably hit the nail on the head.

That 30s thing has been around for a short while as far as I can tell.
