On this day 15 years ago, the world changed for the better. Baby Shamblers gurgled, Hell Knights joyfully chewed on their new toys (us) and Shub-Niggurath was squeezed in to a novelty it-fits-a-baby-but-it-looks-like-adult-clothes-awwwww!!!-cute dress with little yellow flowers stamped on red pleats.

Today, the baby Shamblers are skipping school to ride around on the back of busses, the Hell Knights are relentlessly masturbating and Shub-Niggurath is pushing her hell-spawn round Primark in a 676882346752332 seat buggy.

Happy 15th Birthday Quake 1 -- you're still miles better than all of your offspring.

Hooray! My favorite game ever!

Currently there is Quake Expo 2011 running : http://expo2011.quakewiki.net/

If anyone is interested in multiplayer, there is still an active community in Europe and a not so active community in NA. You can get Quake 1 from Steam and with a new client like ezQuake the gfx holds up.

clientpackage: www.nquake.com (http://www.nquake.com)
high-skill duel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkdBXKlxqoc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vddIQ85FRJU)( keep in mind that this is not high quality gfx ;) )
community page: www.quakeworld.nu (http://www.quakeworld.nu)

Sadly I am not so into sp, so someone else has to post information about this ;)

I've been playing Quake Rally, Slide, Rubicon 2 and SuperDuper Quake all day long. Happy Birthday Quake, you may have to wait 3 or 4 years before we can legally get you tanked but we'll slip you a little when your mother's not looking.

I got a Quake T-shirt for the occasion. I'm happy for it. Also played through Q1 singleplayer on Nightmare. Felt pretty good afterwards.

This map is really something (http://expo2011.quakewiki.net/detail-view.php?id=61&category=Booths). I am impressed.

The version that used to be up on Mod DB which had Duke Nukem 3D enemies in it was a real blast but things had to get replaced. Still mad fun but I feel that it's missing a significant amount without 'em. At least it still has Elmo and Homer in it.

Indeed. I saw that yesterday (here is the func_msgboard topic (http://www.celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=60542) for those who want to comment on it). It has a very strong Ayleid ruins feeling (something intended, although the first time i played it i didn't knew it -didn't read the .txt file :-P- and it was unexpected to me) which while not true to the classic Quake style, it still feels Quake-ish due to the way some constructions seem to be made.

Note that it requires FitzQuake (or a derivative), otherwise some things might not work (like colored lighting or fog - both of which make most of the map's atmosphere - or even have items disappear).
