View Full Version : Remakes/Sequels that should happen (but probably never will)

Are there any games that people would give their right ear to play a good remake of, but which (for various reasons) probably will never get made?

I'll kick the list off with the obvious Alpha Centauri (something to do with rights and trademarks) and also No One Lives Forever - such fun to play, nothing like them have come out since.

Minecraft. I'd go with a voxel engine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CCZIBDt1uM&t=2m43s) with materials for every pixel. Even with their millions they won't dedicate a team of 3/4 to something as epic as that.

I'd also like to see a proper Carmageddon that isn't an XBLA game.

Master of Magic.

I'd love to see a sequel/remake/spiritual successor for this game that actually managed to capture the feel of the original.

Planescape: Torment sequel/spiritual successor. Not with the same characters but just the same type of game, set in the same setting. There's been talk of it happening but we all know if it ever does happen it'll be dumbed down, """""""""""""""streamlined""""""""""""" rubbish.

Pijama
03-06-2011, 04:31 PM
Planescape - Torment can't be remade with the current "mainstreaming" trend of the industry, unless Black Isle reforms under an indie flag.

So in short, no.

However, a Planescape-inspired game (an original setting with the same style for example) would be quite something.

Then we have the everlasting contenders: Dungeon Keeper 3, Syndicate, X-COM (as a proper strategy game), Startopia...

Devastation 2

Some of the games mentioned already have sequels.

No One Lives Forever 2 was a cracking sequel and System Shock 2 is an all time classic.

Sacrifice is the game I would love to see revived.

I'd like a new Freelancer. The X-series never seemed able to grab my attention and although I have tried countless times I never got into EvE Online, so I desperately need a space sim fix.

I'd also love a new Homeworld game.

I remember there was an old warhammer (at least I think it was warhammer) rts game that I really liked in the 90s, cant remember the name but an updated version of that would be cool. I think a homeworld game that is more like the first and its expansion would be great, the second was just too difficult for me I am sorry to say. Relic could probably do both of those but its unlikely to ever happen because 40k and CoH are all they have done for years now.

I also think there should be no more sonic the hedgehog sequels unless they are done in the style of the old fleetway comics.

People have already mentioned sequels to Outcast, Freespace, Psychonauts, Magic Carpet and Commander Keen.

So I guess all I have to add is that I'd love to see a new Little Big Adventure game.

Shaq Fu 2 - Old dog, no tricks.

I always liked Shadowman, even though it was slightly guff. Remake that.

A new Planescape game, obviously. Barring that, Homeworld 3 (I say 'barring that' because I'm pretty sure Homeworld 3 is actually already in early stages of development at Relic).

Albion 2. Anybody remember that one? Blue Byte's finest.

Settlers 2 20th Anniversary Edition ;-)

I'd love a new Hexen.

Oh yes, but if it did happen it would be published by Activision so I won't be happening with it. What a shame.

Another old platformer I'd love to see again. Fury of the Furries, no its not some weird tale of angry fetishists, but a fun puzzle/action game starring a bunch of furry coloured balls, each with different powers.

I used to say I'd love a new Boulderdash game, but apparently that is happening soon. Yay!

Throw in some Deux Ex after Freespace 2 if DX:HR turns out to be a shame.

Human Revolution is a prequel to the original. So, either way, we would need a sequel :P

Another Freespace would be cool, but I just can't see how they would get it to work without making everyone buy a joystick.

A Rise of Nations sequel would be great too. I never played the actual sequel, which didn't appeal much, but one with the same historic to modern to near future setting of the original would be awesome. On the same theme, Age of Mythology 2 really should have happened.

Grim Fandango could do with a follow up. It wouldn't follow the same characters, just be set in the same wonderful world the original created. It would probably be crap though.

It is probably about time we had a new Jedi Knight game as well. Preferably one that was based more on Dark Forces 2 than Outcast. It could even fulfil everybody's' dream to have a motion controlled lightsaber game, finally.

Homeworld 3 please. I want huge capital ships with massive guns blowing each other up with a gorgeous engine powering it. And less reliance on mining etc.

If Relic announce anything other than Homeworld 3 in august then I'll... Probably do nothing.

@ Thants The genesis shadowrun remake is a great idea.
I also would prefer a remake of System Shock 1 over a sequel.

Anything Discworld. Noir was pretty cool but it's not a game that's able to withstand the years it has so well, a remake could do.

Until I saw this post I'd completely forgotten all about that game. Definitely stirred some memories though, I think I may have only ever had the demo but something in my mind is telling me it was amazing. I also seem to be remembering it in tandem with Zool, I wonder if they were on the same demo disk or something.

One of the most weirdly hilarious things about Fury of the Furries was that in the language selector you could pick 'Fremen.'

I'd like a remake of Baldies. (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/622/Baldies.html) It's like a much more sadistic version of The Settlers with no economy emphasis.

And Westwood's Blade Runner, using L.A. Noire's facial capture tech.

Toonstruck was practically set up for a sequal which never came (although we all know why obviously)

Obviously would love to see a follow up to Bloodlines, (we miss you Troika!)

Another hit for Freespace (trying to avoid ones already mentioned but want it to much to pass it over)

Terra Nova (Still probably wins award for "game most ahead of its time, maybe alongside Op Flash)

Richard Burns Rally (No decent realistic rally games for ages)

Psychonauts (obv)

Alongside Freespace, wouldn't mind a new X-Wing/TIE Fighter game

Deus Ex remade in the Human Revolution engine.
Baldur's Gate 1/2/Throne of Bhaal remade, completely true to the originals, as three full games, in a proper 3D engine.

The gentleman who suggested Jade Empire 2 in the Arkham Asylum engine... Yes, yes I would want to see that.

Likewise, a proper KOTOR sequel/remake/finished version of 2 would be much appreciated.

And adding my voice to the 'UFO Enemy Unknown in a modern engine' shouting. (yes, I'm aware of Xenonauts)

Some good choices already such as NOLF. Never understood why that series never took off in the way it should have.

The one game I'd love a sequel for more than any other is Giants : Citizen Kabuto. I can't begin to tell you how much I love that game. Bought it off GoG a while back so looking forward to getting stuck into that again at some point.
