Sure. I'm in.

Some things to consider:
- Which version to use (LNP would be the obvious choice)
- Limiting the max. amount of players?
- how long we wait for a player to submit his turn
- when to allow save-scumming

no need to start a new one - the original is still out there. It's in limbo at the moment on Khyrses's computer, but if he won't step up and take his go I'm sure we can find the previous save and you can go from there.

I spent a lot of time and effort doing an epic poem, and I don't intend for it to be lost.

25-06-2011, 12:22 AM
I'd given up but it looks like President Weasel is made of sterner stuff. The poem was epic.

I'd be willing to join again, whether you start a new or continue on RockPaper the Fire-Bow.

EDIT: I won't be online again until July 5.

OK, here's the plan.

1) whoever wants first go makes a google doc for the list of names and puts their name first
2) link the doc here
3) whoever else wants a go adds their name to the list. If there are dates you can't make, put that on the list - eg "Norskov (can't play until July 5th)"
4) once there's a list, I'll get hold of the latest save game I can find, and give it to the first person.
5) fun and profit.

25-06-2011, 12:39 PM
Perchance we should drag the storytelling work that's already been done onto this forum for posterity, if we're gonna continue RockPaper the Fire-Bow

25-06-2011, 03:11 PM
Right, let me get some Google Docs created and I'll put them both here and in the first post. (What is this editing witchraft of the new forums!?)

Edit: Done. I've created a doc that includes both an empty list of places for people to go (the 10 empty slots are placeholders, they can be removed or added as necessary) and all of the write ups from the old thread in shiny new formatting so as to make them easy(er) to follow and read. Also, if you check the first post, you'll notice I've used my internet devil magic to create a frame showing the document in its current form. Theres also a link to the conventional document editing page. If when you're editing you could keep the same style as the rest of the document (Heading 3 for main titles, Heading 4 for subtitles, with horizontal lines [check the insert menu] to separate sections) then I wont hate you too much.

Here's (http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-10293-rockpaperthefire-bow) the entry on the DF map archive, last entry from Spring 256.

I put myself in for the third spot but can go further down the line if someone want's to have an earlier go.

Good work, sir Egg. I'd forgotten how good some of those were.

I believe Latterman's save can still be found at http://www.mediafire.com/?y66ks03wfwo8ldt

darn, if we're restarting with my save i might actually have to finish that write up :S

President Weasel

We have to restart with your save. We had Captain "I can't open a zip file" arseing us about for about a year and a half of incompetence, and then we had Khyrses take some of his go and then vanish. Yours (since I am assuming you're Latterman - hello Latterman! Your writeup made me laugh) is the last save we have.

25-06-2011, 09:07 PM
The next thing to do I guess is to recruit some more victims players and then assign an order. Personally, I'd quite like some time to continue to practice in my save, so I'd rather not be first. I say this because the first two attempts I've had, I've killed everyone in less than a year. Hmm.

*Bump* Heard about this (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=50643.0) earlier. Could be interesting. Then again it could be terrible.

28-06-2011, 02:32 PM
At first glance that ranks an "Interesting but kinda pointless" for me. I'd prefer to run it locally and use tilesets m'self.

01-07-2011, 02:47 PM
I'm willing to take a turn - should I just add my name to the google doc?

President Weasel
01-07-2011, 02:52 PM
yup! Welcome to the succession game. Have Fun(tm)

04-07-2011, 07:36 PM
May I suggest we actually get the ball rolling on this thing? I've trimmed the list accordingly.

12-07-2011, 01:47 PM
Who's top of the list? Let's poke 'em with sticks!

12-07-2011, 01:55 PM
Wait what, according to the Google Doc (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KC2okSI6j1A-TgHVR4OiCgThbloZE19NQCRhBK54io8/edit?hl=en_GB&authkey=CNuH0MQH) it's me? I was third!

Anyway, someone else has to pick that save up as i just finished that turn.

12-07-2011, 05:00 PM
The reason you ended up first is that nobody joined in ahead of you, so when I trimmed the list of empty spots.. yeah. Anyway, I guess that makes me next in line. Where can I find the file? (Don't worry, I can unzip things >.<)

14-07-2011, 10:55 PM
In the beginning of this thread?

15-07-2011, 10:14 PM
Oh yes. Derp.

23-08-2011, 09:04 PM
Is this still active?
If yes I'm interested.

If not then I'd be up for getting involved in a new one (either on this forum or we start a RPS thread in DF forum)

23-08-2011, 09:45 PM
I think it never started.

23-08-2011, 10:43 PM
I see.
In which case what interest is there in a new one? We'd need half a dozen people to get started I think.
For maximum fun, I'd suggest an embark somewhere dangerous and/or wildly inconvenient (glaciers, deserts, terrifying haunted swamps etc..)

President Weasel

Hello Jorum,

You could start a new one, or you could find the latest version of the save file (somewhere near the start of the thread) and heroically kickstart the moribund succession game back into life.

Bonus points if you accidentally kick the fort into a tantrum spiral and everybody dies.

24-08-2011, 07:34 PM

I fear I must pass the baton on, Deus Ex is calling me.

26-08-2011, 02:40 PM
OK, if no one else objects, I'll do my turn this weekend so at least we get (re)started. I've been in Italy for the last 3 or so weeks but I am free to dig into hell and turn loose a horde of demons on the fortress now.

26-08-2011, 05:40 PM
Go for it. i downloaded the save but haven't had chance to look at it yet.

President Weasel
26-08-2011, 06:45 PM
Right then.

Please try to have your turn done and the new savegame available in a week, plus brief writeup. Failing that, please post a "I am halfway through, the save will be available soon" type post in a week, just so we know the Curse of The Dwarf Fortress Game hasn't made another player disappear.

Rock Paper the Fire Bow shall live again!
Strike the Earth! (some more)

28-08-2011, 01:48 PM
OK dudes. I'm on it. ...except I don't know which version to use. If anyone could help me on this small issue, I'll get it done asap.

30-08-2011, 02:53 PM
That would depend on the version in use last time...

Sorry I can't be more useful, I'm but an occasional snooper (Kobold thief if you like) on the inner goings on of the Fire Bow fortress.

30-08-2011, 03:22 PM
speaking as another lurker - that seems like the kind of info which would be useful in the OP, along with a download link or similar.

President Weasel
30-08-2011, 04:05 PM
Gads. That information was in the old thread on the Forum of Yore.

30-08-2011, 04:35 PM
hmm, is there anyway of looking at the contents of the world save file or similar to if there is a version number?

I can confirm it opens in 31.25a without complaining, but without playing for indefinite amount of time no way to tell if anything is bugged out though.

30-08-2011, 05:25 PM
I still have my old save stored in a folder named LazyNewbPack[0.31.25][V9.0], so my guess would be that we used 31.25 ;)

30-08-2011, 07:32 PM
Sounds good.

Also having looked around the place I have to say this fortress appears to be shockingly well organised and shamefully lacking in mysterious levers. I'm going to leave the room and when I come back I want to see magma leakage and carpets of body parts.

30-08-2011, 07:36 PM
Gads. That information was in the old thread on the Forum of Yore.

this one?

31-08-2011, 01:23 PM
OK, awce, I'll get on it. Expect levers by the millions.

02-09-2011, 08:36 PM
Sorry for the double post, just letting you guys know it'll be done over this weekend. I'm up against a deadline for work as well but there's always a couple of hours to spare for DF!
