Hi,
I currently own a Dell 24" HPVA monitor, the dell 2408WFP. It's a great monitor, but I could really use some more real estate. I'm going to purchase another professional monitor for gaming (primarily), CAD, Photoshop (not a ton of this, I'm not a professional) and a lot of window management and movies etc.
I'd like to purchase an IPS display, and I'm thinking of getting a 24" or 30" monitor. I want it to be 16:10, so I'm not looking at any 27" monitors.

This seems to be what I've found.
The 30" dell

is possibly one of the best monitors on the market.
It has the same panel as the 30" hp

but a lot more adjustments and is overall higher quality.

The only issues with it are price (basicaly 2x to 3x more than a 24"), weight (not a huge deal), and well, size. It would be great to work on, but it's tough to fit on a desk next to a 24".

The next choice is a dell 24", the u2410

The problem with this monitor is color. Apparently when it came out it had a really high failure rate, which Dell decided is within specification (so no returns based on it), and it was a crapshoot on whether you monitor was any good. You can google stuff about that monitor and green banding.
There have been a lot of revisions since the monitor came out several years ago, but I haven't been able to prove to myself the problem is fixed.
This has me really nervous. Does anyone know anything about this problem and whether it has been fixed?
The new 24" from dell doesn't compete with its older brother in terms of quality. its a cheaper product that has a new, cheaper, ips screen, and isnt really in the same category.

The 24" HP is nearly 3000 bucks everywhere, which is absurd.

I'll take other suggestions, and I haven't completely shut the door on 27" if you can explain why that might be my best bet (the dell and apple 27" are apparently nice, but I like my 16:10)

So most important questions:
What other options are there in this category? Especially other HP 24" that aren't 3 grand
Has the 24" Dell been fixed? Or how can I be sure to get a good one? can I ask when I order over the phone at amazon, new egg, or dell.com?
24 vs 30 (vs 27)?

Thank you so much for your help!
I'm leaning towards the dell 24" if I can get a perfectly working one, and the dell 30" if I can't get a good 24" from dell.
I'd get the 30" if I could find it lower priced even if I could guarantee a perfectly working 24", but the prices seem pretty stagnant.

thanks!!
