Great non-mandatory newb session tonight... and I got a question (briefly brought up in session)... launchers?

I play DayZ and (increasingly) Arma II. My games are steam (and in an ideal world I'd like the overlay), and I try to keep up to date with arma 2 betas.

I've looked at:

- Six Updater (atrocious UI, converts mods to it's own format, is currently updated)
- Spirited Machine (out of date?, a bit simpler and better ui? doesn't have -beta parameter)
- just adding mods to steam command line (limit to length of launch options, have to manually change to switch tween DayZ and other uses)
- non-steam batch files (no overlay)

Any advice?

ARMA2 launcher (http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241) is what I use.

If you always want the up to date Beta patch I recommend SixUpdater.
I know it's ugly but it does the job and once you get a hang of it it's easy to use.

it does have the option to run it in beta. Go to under Launch options and tick "run beta". It will put the beta into your modline, not to the usual -beta. Recommend using OA game version on the bottom right corner. You're CO should work if you have launched A2 before trough the arma2.exe (or from Steam libarys) file.

I use sixupdater to keep my mods up to date and get the beta patch, but I usually launch the game with the same launcher Simmura uses. Most people say that Silverlight's launcher is superior to it though, I can't comment because I'm too lazy to switch.

I use this one (http://arma2.paro-technology.com/), have managed all my mods and things including the beta patches and DayZ without issues.

You download things yourself, put them into the right folders and the launcher detects them and you can select them and play. I prefer this method over anything automatic, because if something fucks up I know it was me and I know what I did to make it fuck up.

You remind me of someone ,cant remember who.

I usually use sixupdater to keep update with heavy stuff like ACE and Dayz, but i never ever ever launch with it.

And http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241 is the best one to use.

I use a modline generated by SpiritedMachine's launcher to run the game through steam, otherwise the overlay and 'hours wasted' count doesn't work for me. I do launch through it if I need something random like ACE or whatever though.
