Did anyone else think it suffered from a rather poor villain? The focus wasn't really on the villain this time i guess, but he wasn't around much and then his big plan didn't seem to amount to much.

Was confused about the insertion of comedy sidekick albert finney as well, not sure what that achieved.

Other than that, it was pretty enjoyable. Wonder where they'll take the next one after that ending though...

Japan. We get some movies instantly. We got Amazing Spiderman before anyone else. Some we have to wait for half a year (or more). Skyfall and avengers were the big waits this year.

Though before skyfall they showed a trailer for The Cabin in the woods (which i already have on dvd) which absolutely gave away every single part of the story, even the end scene. I'm so glad I watched it before I saw that trailer.

(Side note, before Skyfall there were trailers for the next Die Hard (Bruce willis rescues his son by fighting and shooting) Outlaw (seems like tom cruise rescues some girl (daughter?) by fighting and shooting) and Taken 2 (Liam Neeson rescues his wife and/or daughter by fighting and shooting) one after the other. They looked totally identical and interchangeable. )

Haha yeah the plots of Die hard and Taken are pretty much the same but it's a very common formula.

Saw Lincoln. Not nearly as boring as I was expecting. Tommy Lee Jones does a great performance. Daniel Day Lewis's Lincoln comes across as a folksy wierdo that always seems to be waiting to tell some story (which actually is kind of funny at some times). Spielberg made a solid historical biopic. A definite B+ in my reckoning.

Just saw Dark Knight Rises for first time. Confirms Nolan is a hack. I didn't mind The Prestige but just about everything else he's done is a dud.

Very profitable duds that have netted him lots of praise from both critics and audience, so that's a bit harsh I think.

If you think Memento was made by "a hack", you're an idiot. Even Scorsese has Boxcar Bertha and Shutter Island to his name, but nobody is calling him out.

I saw Batman Begins yesterday, it is really, really bad. Doesn't even manage to be mediocre, it's just plan bad. I've seen the last five of Nolan's movies, and barring The Dark Knight and Inception, I thought they were utter shit.

No, it's that Batman is a terrible character to begin with who was always upstaged by his villains, and the plot was hypocritical in the extreme because it pinned all of Gotham's great evils on Batman himself.

The Dark Knight was great because Joker, full stop. Arguably, the best Batman envisioning was that of Alan Moore's The Killing Joke, which put Batman on even keel with the Joker.

So I pressed publish by mistake. Should learn to write screeds in a word processor and not website text boxes. If I can ever coherently get my thoughts onto paper so to speak I'll just add it to, and edit this post.

To be fair, Batman has always been about the enemies and not that much about the man himself. The movies did the opposite of that.

Let's not forget that the most interesting part of Batman has always been the Rogue's Gallery, and the movies put far too much focus on Bruce Wayne.

I like the disturbed and psychotic vigilante archetype. Rorschach was better than Batman though.

They had shitty atmosphere, stupid plots and jarring dialogues. TDK, while trying a bit too hard to be taken seriously, was objectively a better movie, plus it had some awesome cinematography. Joker too seemed was a much more realistic character than Ra's Al Ghul, Talia, Bane or Scarecrow.
