And some Torchlight II to cheer me up!
Are you ready for some pixels? Because I gots me some pixels.
I've been playing cartographer in Minecraft because of the new item frame feature. I love having a map room. Those maps are scaled 2:1, and their borders align. It took 144 pieces of paper to make them.
Turning up the render distance all the way to 512m. My graphics card makes a funny noise when I do this. I had to wait almost an entire in-game day for it to finish loading, and still I had to cut it short when the sun was setting. There are a handful of missing chunks in the swamp. I'm looking in the direction of the top left map in the previous shot, see if you can match up the terrain.
Kinda sucks how despite SpecOps's love for constantly showing The True Face Of War, everybody has fire-immune modesty clothing. Pretty hypocritical pulled punch, I think; it defangs a shitload of the reality argument and makes them more just gross-out moments. Loving detail lavished on the effects of various substances on human skin, but pure cartoon physics for everything else. Undies in a holocaust film.
Also, using a handwriting font for the list of dead soldiers is incredibly lazy and kind of boorish. And again, defanging, because it's so bloody obvious. Not sure why so many texture artists still think they can get away with this, since it's a safe bet most human beings have seen handwriting at some point in their life. Compared to the loving depictions of ruined human flesh, the short shrift given to this moment of actual humanity is kind of fucked, and more what I'd expect from a Black Ops game.
Still, the overall visuals are amazing, and those were particularly good screenshots too.
Those shots are all surprisingly atmospheric, jnx. Does the actual game feel that way?
I didn't know you visit Silent Hill in that eurotruck game. I suggest you fuel up and scram quick!
Here's some work in progress:
I need to get the playing pieces textured properly, and the code to draw boundaries doesn't work properly (hence the bugged out zigzaggy line). but overall, I'm quite pleased with my progress :)
Tim Stone wrote a mini-review for PC Gamer. Now I think I'll probably get the game...
Those Minecraft shots are brilliant, LTK. Every time someone posts a picture of that game I really want to play it, then remember that I don't have nearly enough patience or creativity to pull something like that off. Glad that other people do, though!
Also, Planetside 2 has some gorgeous art design.
