Guild Wars 2 AARs / Stories
I thought it would be good to have a separate thread for any after action reports or stories that people might like to post.
It also gives me an excuse to re-post the one I did in the main thread, particularly since moving the thread seems to have broken all the screenshots.
Posting guidelines and etiquette
If I can ask we keep this thread strictly on topic please - so the AARs / stories themselves and discussion / feedback related to them only.
Additionally, since you can post a max of 4 embedded images can I suggest that if people end their post
continued...
you refrain from posting to allow them to finish their post.
That being said if you going to multi-post save them all up before hand as wee don't want to have to wait 2 hours for you to finish your post, no matter how awesome it is.
Impromptu Recon / Sabotage WvWvW Operation AAR
Just a quick AAR on our impromptu Recon / Sabotage Session earlier today. Sadly, I don't have any screenshots, as the idea for the AAR came up only after I had to go offline. So, sorry for the wall of text.
Around 15:00 German time, there was a call in Guild Chat if anyone was up for some WvWvW. After checking the current Situation (namely our Server being brutalized by Desolation and Gandara, it was decided that joining the main zerg was probably a bad idea (as pretty much always).
Instead, the idea came up to join GH borderlands and start doing some Sabotage (Sneakily capping supplies, killing caravans, getting some pickoff kills on stragglers). At the beginning, we were only four or so people, but while we were organizing, the group picked up some more members, until my character could not support the group size (WTF Group size limit of 5?) and a second group had to be opened. In the end, we were something around 8 people, with some leaving and joining in between, IIRC.
In the beginning, we tried to organize ourselves while being a pain for the other teams, and while the first thing kind of worked out, we were in turn brutalized while trying to take a keep with the main zerg (Cannons are evil).
Afterwards, we regrouped and, after a small skirmish that evolved to a 30v30-Battle, went ahead and tried to do some sabotage in the enemy hinterlands. We managed to kill a caravan and cap a supply camp, but were then murdered while trying to take a seemingly undefended tower which suddenly had someone at the burning oil emplacement (Burning oil is evil, too). We lost a bunch of random followers we had amassed, plus one or two RPSsers to that oil, while the rest quickly followed when enemy reinforcements arrived.
After respawning at the Citadel and repairing, we capped the eastern supply camp that, for some reason, had been taken by Gandara. We followed that up with capping a sentry post and the blue (?) supply camp in the south-east (Swimming the lake and following the river turned out to be harder than expected, as the Drakes slow you and knock you down, and you are in full view of the enemy keep on the hill, which had cannons but was thankfully empty).
We followed that up with trying to take the southern supply camp, only to be brutally murdered while doing so. Then, it was decided that we should take the fight to the enemy, and we travelled to Desolation Borderlands, which luckily had to queue.
Over there, my recollection grows a bit hazy. I recall learning that drawing on the minimap was indeed still possible (shift-drag), pinging aswell (shift-click), that you could create waypoints with alt-click (which are shared to the entire group) and that you could call targets with ctrl+click, giving them a nice crosshair over their had (awesome) which does not disappear after they die (annoying).
So, we sneaked and battled around there for a while, dodging some zergs and being brutalized by others, but generally having the best WvWvW-Time I had so far.
tl;dr: Covert sabotage action in WvWvW works and beats joining the zerg by some orders of magnitude. If you are interested in doing this kind of WvWvW-Action, have a look at the WvWvW Recon Team Thread, or just call an impromptu operation in guild chat whenever you feel like it.
