I'm really curious about the site, mostly for playdating for old games, hobbist gamedev or general discussion without Gundato and Nalano. Does anyone here have an account and can explain if it's worth it?

At the moment the Something Awful forums can be viewed even if you don't have an account, so I'd simply recommend you lurk the Games forum for a while and see for yourself if it is to your liking. Personally, I'd call it a mixed bag, there's a lot of genuinely interesting and valuable information on there, but it's often obfuscated by pointless bickering and white noise. Though to be fair, the same criticism could be made of any sufficiently large Internet forum.
A small warning, SA moderates very strictly. Lack of proper grammar, racist/sexist remarks and general low-effort posts are very likely to get you banned. Though this also means that discussions tend to be fairly civil most of the time.

But we've all seen this thread mutliple times and I'm sure it'll be locked soon.
SA is a pretty good place. It's moderated, which means you can be picked up for doing silly shit like using poor grammar, but overall it greatly increases the quality of the posting and Games tends to be an excellent resource all around. Just don't take it as a whole site, moreso than RPS there are specific subforums which are entertaining and informative and others which are 'metahumour' or otherwise less than useful.
