I tried playing it about a year ago after a long stint with Dwarf Fortress. Maybe it's improved since then but the resources available to help clear the hurdle of the interface for new players...
All the stuff people are frothing over is something that may or may not happen down the road. The actual game hasn't changed yet; expensive monocle wearing pilots still explode when you shoot them....
