It's a weird coincidence that this thread has been necro'ed, because I've been thinking about exploration a lot too! Just wanted to throw in my two cents.
I agree with the idea that exploration...

I'd like to retract my stance on the "irrational GoG hate" that I supposedly perceived. I reread the whole thread with a fresh pair of eyes (Don't skim and reply past 23:00 on a work night kids!),...

I'm not trying to start a flamewar. Sorry alms, but the majority of the arguments you, tjrp and others were putting forth against GoG felt like highly biased and irrational attacks. Perhaps that...

Wow, I'm honestly surprised by all the GoG hate - especially the suggestion that they are EVIL, and that Valve isn't. I'll admit I have more of a GoG bias, and they have made plenty of mistakes....

I'm really bouncing off Mass Effect 3 hard atm. All the ME1 love around here is great, especially the MAKO love (I miss that thing more than I thought I would...along with elevator rides! And party...
Star Wars: Homeworld - Control a Rebel fleet Homeworld style, while trying to avoid being pinned down and destroyed by Imperial forces. Or play as a Imperial fleet trying to hunt down and destroy a...
That's very true. Though I think a postwar SoCal city-building simulator would actually be a really interesting game on it's own! Especially if they brought in a 50's vibe and challenges like postwar...
Yes, exactly this as well.
Ironically, the first gameplay video of Cities: Skyline shows exactly what I was talking about! It's all about...
A lot of what I'm going to say is probably pretty obvious. Some articles, like this one, have touched on it but it's something which I feel hasn't been discussed nearly enough.
SimCity is an...

Wow, I still disagree with the GG movement but people on both sides need to stop being dicks to each other. Really though, that's neither here nor there. We can all agree that being a dick is bad....

Cool, thread is back! Thanks mods. This is going to be fairly long, I'm wanted to address some replies from before the thread was locked.
I didn't say anything about a majority, I said there...

Truth! Well put.

Just because a discussion doesn't have an immediately visible result, does not mean it's not productive. The ancient Greeks and Romans used to debate about whether we saw things by shooting rays out...

Fair enough. When I said discussion, I didn't mean hate speech though, I meant reasoned debate. As a moderator, I think you know what I was getting at though. I'm glad you guys delete hate speech -...

Hey mods, for the record I think it would be better to leave the thread open, but to keep it moderated and civil. It's good to have a place to discuss this issue, as it's something a lot of the...

So is #GamerGate basically a pro-sexism/anti-equality in games movement wearing a DoritosGate Part Deux hat? I really don't understand it fully. Haven't we already established that there are some...
Quite a lot actually. I've been dipping back in to Skyrim lately, and I really miss the dynamic NPC-NPC conversations in Oblivion. Sure, the conversation topics were limited, but Bethesda at least...
I won't argue tastes, I can understand some people liking the games on show and have no problem with that!
E3 has become very console oriented, which is probably why there are so many manshoots -...
I know :( I'm not specifically looking for anything. E3 for me has always been about variety and finding interesting new games to look forward too.
Guess it's really become all about the consoles...
I feel like I said this last year as well, but there are no games that stand out to me at all so far this E3 - with the exception of Witcher 3.
It looks like all Action-shooters, sports games, and...
Yeah, so I've heard as well. It's pretty insane and very damaging. I feel the same might happen to the games industry if we aren't careful though. Subsidies, like the anmation ones tend to be...
I asked what big name game developers were there in France, aside from Ubisoft? Those are all fairly small studios, many owned by Ubisoft (ie. Arkane, and Quantic Dream). Which was my point.
And this list is four times bigger. Your point?
Brits and the whole anti-EU thing. Why don't you guys just leave already, if it's that much of a hassle?
Anyways, what actually is the state of the UK Games Industry that it needs tax breaks so...

I think I didn't explain myself correctly. A game about the past does not have to be about history. That past isn't just a series of events, it is also societies and locations which no longer exist....
