i've been playing sorcerer king. it releases today
i found it quite exciting as someone who is not too interested in civilization clones where the only way to stay challenged is by letting the AI...
the whole concept of using RTS controls for action games just makes moba 10 times more boring than it needs to be

random accuracy is pretty terrible if the goal of the game is for players to have fun
it's not as big of a deal if the game is fast-paced and lets you respawn
it's idiotic in a game like csgo...
it would have to be multiplayer like a sport
it would have to have no AI component
so probably some racing game or a very polished FPS
i don't think a fighting game would qualify since you will...
the game isn't bad just because it's a mod of something else
the game is bad because it's a mod of civ 5 and keeps all its flaws intact
it's like the developers learned absolutely nothing
high level play isn't really going to be common in games that don't have players
the only exceptions are games that used to have a competitive scene, but haven't died yet (i think ET still has...

certain modes are completely ruined and have strayed way too far off from the original design
it isn't about casual vs pro, but rather that the game is no longer quake 3 - and among people who...
gameplay-wise? not much
but the $100 million that go into crafting that world and story to play in makes it more enjoyable than a lot of other games when you're looking for that kind of...
it's not that simple
Valve wants to make money somewhere in the chain (and they should because hosting / patching isn't free)
a very cinematic action game that seemed to be of above average quality.
i personally don't view the story that highly (mainly because it's 100% non-interactive), but fanboys...
i think it's just fanboy nonsense
it's just another iteration of 3rd person shooter (+ optional stealth elements)
you can play Resident Evil if 3rd person is required
otherwise there are a lot...

no, but I might buy a few more console exclusives than I usually do if they had proper control schemes
it would still be pointless for serious FPS play. consoles games have really crappy...
lol? etqw is unrivaled in terms of design
etqw failed because of the engine (i.e. not idtech3) and the pricetag (i.e. not free)
if you play it today with all the patches and powerful hardware,...
quake and unreal had plenty of team modes and they were much more popular than ffa/duel
i hope arena FPS becomes popular again
the precision+aim+twitch-skill needed to play the "realistic"...

i'd say that imperfect information is the main thing that separates strategy from mere calculation+optimization
it's just the difference between the two words....

right up there with tic-tac-toe / checkers / chess
technically, the only difference between these games is how much hard disk space (and computation time) I need to store the optimal sequences of...

every tactic (or strategy) needs to be beatable (countered) by a tactic of equal or lesser cost
if that doesn't happen, then the game doesn't have counterplay
"defending" usually just means...

most strategy games follow the exactly same rock-paper-scissors balance scheme:
rushing beats ignoring military and growing
defending beats rushing
ignoring military and growing beats defending...
multiple enemies in a room is most of the combat once you get past the intro levels
most of those rooms have a mixture of obstacles and open spaces
that's one way to play it, and it certainly...
you're talking about the storyline/progression
doom 1 & 2's combat encounters are not linear and actually give the player a choice about where to attack from and how to engage
far cry / crysis...
stop calling linear scripted narrative-oriented games 'cerebral'. there's no decision-making in those
in this order
1) moving along 2 axes in a first person perspective, primarily for...
the increasing costs + economy limit thing is artificial, but if you play onlline with random people it's so brilliant
aoe2 falls apart unless everyone's skill level is exactly the same
games usually aren't good or bad
they are good or bad for a specific audience
what that specific audience is cannot be captured in a number
smart people who know how to play strategy games...
what slow and expensive does is increase the time before an army becomes obsolete
if you have stronger units for 2 minutes, you can do a lot more than if you had stronger units for only 30 seconds
i'm getting 200-300 fps in multiplayer 3v3s
seems to be a decent port this time (in terms of performance. proper MP features for finding similarly skilled opponents are missing)
