Windows 8 here, I ran it in Comp mode and the graphics were just fine, but the cursor movement and slight choppiness really really turned me off. I'm waiting to find a way to install the patches...

Seemed very nice, but the basic UI and budget design put me off. Just seemed a bit boilerplate ported graphics from their other games.
Which compatibility mode are you using?
Did you manage to get the patches installed? If you google around a bit, there should be some tricks to getting it going on Win 7.

Well I feel a bit cheated
Reason why I got the game. It's decent enough, a bit silly with the cages and the running around behind people and the block-assist mechanics.
Same here. I play the game well enough to almost always win against the AI with any team I care to play with (I can't be bothered with horribly designed teams like Halflings and a few others).
But...
TTe Level 10 gaming mouse is rather nice and looks cool. A bit expensive.
