There is a new Kickstarter in town. It's a turn based strategy game with asynchronous multiplayer (which can also be played in the browser) from a german studio. If you know the BAttle Isle series you know this kind of game.
The game is already in the making and has been funded by the studio so far (no publisher) and they use the Kickstarter to get enough money to fully fledge out the game. As almost always DRM free, Win, Mac, Linux. 1/3 of the funding is already in after about 24 hours.

Regarding Battle Worlds I already threw my hat into the ring, since I adored Battle Isle when it still looked like this:

Is it just my false perception of things or do we see more nice looking turn-based strategy games crawling along since XCom showed that there is a demand? No complaints from my side, I'd love to see more nice looking turn-based strategy games that don't look like I need 20 hours for the tutorial alone.

I've very tempted but $20 is a lot to ask for. The asynchronous multiplayer is the strongest pull in my eyes; I assume it will work in a similar fashion to Frozen Synapse?

Basically, yes. User A makes a turn which is saved on the server. Once User B logs in (maybe there are email notifications or something alike) he gets a notification that it's his turn in the game.

Multiplayer can even be played in a browser apparently. I wonder if it would run on my old iPod touch... the possibilities...
