Re-release of TT Bloodbowl later in the year (maybe)

Rumours have been floating around for a (long)while now that GW was planning to re-release BB and apparently it will finally see the light of day about September/October this year.

It will be 'limited release and then pretend it never existed' which is what GW seems to have decided is a really great idea and will make Ebay scalpers happy. It is supposed to have unchanged, or nearly unchanged, rules, a high quality cardboard pitch with 4 teams (Human, Orc, Elf and Chaos).

So it'll be like the re-release of Space Hulk and the release of Dreadfleet?

Yeah I expect so. They seem to be alternating between releasing a boxed set for the Warhammer/40k update and a non-core game at around that time each year. 40k v5(I think?) was released in 2012 so if they keep to the recent pattern it could well be BB this year!

I so much want them to do a proper BB re-release, but I'm pretty sure it'll just be another Dreadfleet/Space Hulk, i.e. a quick splash release and no follow-up other than a couple of White Dwarf articles. I want new team models, people! My Goffik Spiders (orcs, natch) are practically twenty years old at this point.

I think 40k went to 6th edition in 2012, not 4th? Fantasy is in 8th?

A plastic Chaos team? I would like to see that!

Apparently they are the Chaos All Stars who will be the 'boss' in an optional championship mode so they should be quite sparkley.

Really hope this is the case, and would be even better if Forge World does some new teams as it's highly unlikely GW-proper will do any.

I doubt beyond the box edition of it we'll see anything else, from forge world or GW proper.

It'd be nice to be proven wrong, but judging by Space Hulk, Dreadfleet and frankly the way they dropped support for pretty much all their specialist games a few years ago.

In fairness, you can buy almost all the teams on the GW website through the specialist games section. There are notable exceptions (Bull Centaurs, the Khemri team has Mummies not Tomb Guardians, a couple of Star Players) but it does exist, and combined with the figures from Citadel/Forge World you can make the range especially if you include non-Citadel minatures as there are quite a few other companies making Fantasy Football minis.

I'm actually in-process of making a physical BloodBowl team based on my Cyanide Khemri and pondering doing the same for my Chaos Dwarfs.

You're right, you can still buy the mini's from them and I believe the rules are free, but they're not advertised, most (I believe no) stores stock them or promote them at all any more.

I just don't see GW putting money into extra resources, molds etc for this to make new teams beyond what comes in the box. At most they'll perhaps make limited edition dice or something.

The third party support for Blood Bowl miniatures has been great lately, anyway. On top of the unofficial miniature ranges, there have been Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaigns for Amazons, Chaos and Lizardmen in particular which have been absolutely stunning. (If I played any TT at all, I would have snapped up at least two of those teams.)

There's plenty to choose from and most of it better (and cheaper) than GW's own efforts.

Not a chance, GW decided years ago to cater to its 'core' games and leave the rest to die. You can still buy some of their 'specialist games' in GW's (extremely over priced) online store but the games haven't been updated in over a decade (I think the last updates was 2002) and there are significant gaps across the entire miniature line. I would love the see Forgeworld take up the sadly neglected Games of GW's '90's hayday; Epic, Battefleet Gothic, Necromunda....

As it is this BB re-release will certainly be a limited edition that will cost 70 (rising to 150 on ebay once it sells out) and will receive no support at all once it is released. Blood Bowl is probably the most healthy of all the specialist games so a re-release that doesn't touch the rules will be a good thing overall but so much more could be done.

You can get quiet a bit of BFG and Epic on Forge World, but it's mostly supplementary items as opposed to full forces etc. I've had a few friends over the years who have and still work at GW. They told us years ago the writing was on the wall for anything that wasn't one of the 3 core games, being 40k, Fantasy and LoTR.

There's enough companies though making alternative mini's for use in Blood Bowl though and at much better prices.
