    Monster Game

I was looking at the article there on RPS about Reus and I suddenly wondered - was there ever a game where you play a monster like Godzilla or Mothra or Kong or whoever and you just have to lay waste to a city while increasing waves of national guard tanks and sopwith camels sap away at your health? It sounds like it would be a lot of fun. Sort of like Shadow of Colossus meets Sim City meets... I dunno... Prototype?

Is there anything like this out there and if not why not?

In 2D: Rampage. There are a lot of them
In 3D: More than a few, but Eat Them for the PS3 (possibly other consoles) is rather enjoyable.

I still have the Rampage disc for the PSX laying around. You trash sky scrapers, eat people and throw around cars and conquer the world.

There's also that Hulk game where you jump around and destroy everything.

Some of the Sim City games. :P
I think you can get tanks in Sim 2000/3000 with the right conditions, no idea if they deploy in SimCity 4. I actually feel guilty for forgetting that, but tend not to destroy my creations, so that's my excuse. ;)

Also if you're interested in a game like Reus, the two Black & White games are the closest you'll get.

Minotaur China Shop is kinda like that, except with a china shop instead of a city and you're a minotaur china salesman instead of a giant monster..

Back in the day there was The Movie Monster Game. It came out on Apple II and Commodore 64. They got licensing for Godzilla, and threw in a bunch of other serial-numbers-filed-off kaiju. Pick a monster, pick a city, pick an objective (eat, find your child, smash a specific landmark, escape the city, or just wreck as much shit as possible).

there was also that kaiju combat game that was featured on kickstarter ketchup. the kickstarter was successful, but then wizards of the coast decided they weren't cool with it: http://www.gamepolitics.com/2013/03/...ingement-claim

you can still preorder the game here: http://sunstone.co/games/kaiju-combat, which is a bit weird.

There's a SNES fighting game where the players are giant monsters in an isometric city. Name escapes me.

    Also Deathworm, does that count?

War of the Monsters was great!

There were a bunch of Godzilla games in the early 2000's, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters for Xbox and maybe PS2 was a particular stand out.

I played that one before, iirc. It was an Atari game isn't it? Nevermind the label, yeah that game's quite good.

DEATHWORM counts for everything. Did you know DEATHWORM is considered part of every genre? Yes, all of them.
