    Radio Plays?

    Hello.
I come to you today with a question: do you know of any magnificent old-timey Radio Plays I can sink my ear-teeth into?

I'm finishing up the last episode of the 1960's Sexton Blake Detective series now (http://www.myoldradio.com/old-radio-...lake-detective). I've come to enjoy them as a nice alternative to podcasts, and I wonder if you know of anything in the same vein? (There's tons of shows on that myoldradio site but there's no way to know which ones are rubbish and which are rare and beautiful gems).

The only relevant item I'm aware of is the new Sexton Blake two-hour special thing-device -- Past John Walker posted about it here, but I, haha! had heard of it already on account of following Mil Millington's Internet Presence. I want to buy that, but Audible.com was being horrible, so I might wait until it's available as a proper mp3, or order an actual CD. But I still need other suggestions! From you. It's all up to you now.

    kthxbye!
Support for my all-pepperjack-cheese food bank charity drive has been lukewarm at best.

Not at all in the same vein but I remember listening to an internet radio play called The Fourth Ambit that I quite enjoyed. It's a cyberpunk story acted (quite well!) by a single actor doing all the characters. Looking at the website it looks completely abandoned though and the chapter links appear to be dead. I think I still have it somewhere.. perhaps I should try to find it a new home.

There was another internet radio drama group called Seeing Ear Theatre I listened to yonks ago, but they also seem to have abandoned ship. Google turned up their version of Neil Gaiman's Snow Glass Apples on the YouTubes though, here be links:

Actually a quick google reveals some good archives of this stuff at http://www.radioechoes.com/seeing-ear-theater

I recommend the BBCs output too. Especially 'Weird tales' or 'The Man In Black', very very creepy stuff. Some of the older scifi material can be a bit hit or miss but mainly hits. If you ever come across Journey In Space it's ***** amazing, riveting stuff, full of old time charm and daring do alongside some ultimately complex concepts. The Beeb also do some great adaptations of Discworld, particularly the recently rebroadcast 'Eric' - Brian from Spaced is a perfectly twitchy Rincewind.

I'll post some more stuff on here later when work has quitened down, this is some of my favourite stuff to listen to.

Not old but the BBC did do a quite good adaptation of Neverwhere recently, its interesting since it uses the sound to describe the world instead of a narrator and everything is in dialogue which is quite nice.

Also obviously the Hitchikers guide to the galaxy radio episodes are a must.

Turns out you can listen to The Fourth Ambit streaming here, though it seems to only work in IE which is incredibly dumb. It's rather good though, I recommend checking it out.

Thanks! I remember the quality being a bit mixed (this was some 10 years ago) but there was some good stuff there. Will listen later. :)
