    Papers, Please [DENIED][DENIED][DENI-

Hmm... HMMM... Yeah, so we got this particular game on our radars recently, especially after Nathan gave it a go for Glorious Arstotzka. Depressing as fuck, yes but so, so engrossing at the same time. A Steam release is expected as well but the developer might cut oit a few things, sadly.

So, how's your day in the checkpoint?

I should have been a border guard.

For such an apparently simple game, it's absolutely great. I'm real interested to see where it ends up when it's finished. I had way too much fun with it than I should have. It rewards attention to detail and speed, I found myself trying to memorise regions to process things a bit faster. UI feels a little clunky at times though, you really need more desk space.

What I took away from the brief demo is this:

Arstotzka seems pretty grim, but there's places adjacent that are even worse.

I like the cramped desk. I could almost feel my elbows brushing against the walls of the booth.

It's brilliant. Even the sounds are brilliant, that nonsense noise that comes out when you call for the next would-be-immigrant. It feels like it would be even more brilliant if there was someone intermittently coughing on the background, though!

That's intended. Or should be intended, because it was often true.

I get that but it's still a mess moving things around and trying to click on elements to detect inconsistencies. Quite often I'm trying to click on something but the UI occasionally decides to be very specific about what you're clicking on.

A mouse doesn't lend itself well to emulating a cluttered work desk, it's more how you're interacting with it which makes it cumbersome.

I don't think there's a better way to do that though.

It's not a game, it's just like my job! So much so, I get very stressed about it (not for loosing, it's a game, but for being reminded, that's how workers get treated).
Get dumped in a complicated paperwork job, asked to process lots, boss turns up "you done yet", even though information overload is approaching. :P

Thanks to the thread for reminding me about this one - downloaded the beta and started denying entry (after sketching out the map and all the passport details).

Nude scanner among a few. It's probably for the best because not everyone's comfortable at looking genitalia of ninety-year old pensioners. And it's probably to be more acceptable to be released on Steam and elsewhere. He replaced it with a censored version instead (with undergarments on).

This one's just rumours but Pope might also cut off mod support.

Well yeah, the Catholic church hasn't been big on creative interpretations of Christianity before so it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone really.

    Tell me about it

But seriously, that's just a rumour. Some dudes made a Nazi mod and some overly sensitive pricks spread it around the Internet complaining about it. Pope's the developer's surname actually :)
