Where in the US, Silicon Valley perchance?

Heading to LA for a few days to hang out with most of the dev team to play games and that sort of thing (we have a distributed team, and our designer lives in LA, so we're going to crash at his place).
Then we're going up to Santa Cruz for the official part of the work meetup, which is doing a Wilderness Survival Clinic (http://www.adventureout.com/survival...rvival-clinic/). Not really sure that has much to do with coding budget software, but hey, you know
Then a few days after hanging around San Francisco.
    Then home time again.

So I guess kinda near Silicon Valley, but not going there specifically.

Santa Cruz and San Francisco, while not technically in the valley, are pretty much part of the tech scene here. Maybe not Santa Cruz so much, but since it's the closest beachfront plenty of trips are made to there by the tech crowd. Let me know if you want any pointers on where to go for food or drinks and such (assuming you don't already have a local contact); being in San Jose I'm pretty much equidistant between the two cities.

Feel free to fire some suggestions my way.
Worst case scenario, we don't use them

@Zlabi, @BigBobr99 -on second thought, I'll probably just hold out until UK1 is back on its feet before issuing challenges for our matches. Had a look at US1 last night and it was very flaky.

We've been given the nod by the Mode 7 guys before but it's still nice to hear them say it, and it's all down to the excellent little community we've built up over the last couple of years. So give yourselves a round of applause.
Thank you, Col, for keeping the league alive and kicking and all the participant for being such a good sport about losing or winning. *APPLAUDING* Hurrah for RPS League!

I really wish it was possible to do that pocker style tournament, when all the guys are sitting and playing in this one room, tension rising, joking around, getting a drink in between turns. Frozen Synapse World Championship - that'd be awesome

    Suggest that to Mode 7.

Personally I'd imagine irl FS tournament to resemble a chess tournament rather than poker due to the pacing of the game; People staring focused at computer screens for 15 to 20 minutes before making a move (Talk about audience-friendly...).

First the nod from mode 7 and then our very own section on the RPS forums! Big things! ha.

I think anything that keeps people interested in the game and playing is a good thing so it's nice that mode 7 see that.

I really can see this becoming a big game again with the Ipad launch though and the soon to be released android version. My friends and I have said since day 1 that this would lend itself to a tablet perfectly. The new 2 week timeout as well sounds great so I'm glad things are going in the right direction.

If we continue daydreaming... Playing with that 3 minute per turn timer can spice things up a bit. With the turn planning shown live on those humongous screens, it can definitely be more exciting than chess tournaments. It must be extremely fun watching 2 opponents making their turns at once with that juicy outcome. Same as watching poker players on tv when you know everyone's cards and they don't.

And if mode 7 ever decides to host such an event it's gotta be here in Siberia! No better place for something frozen

Hope they would add decay to the ELO system, so that not playing the game for a certain time would lower one's ranking. Now Amnesia is sitting in the first place ad infinitum with only 50 games and s/he's unlikely to play ever again.

That or something that would sort player into 2 separate lists: all-time-high ranks and active players ranks (for people completing at least 1 game per month for example). I think it still would be unfair to scratch people off the lists or let them lose rating if they stop playing.

They finally decided to hide us away in our own little ghetto, huh? Do we have a dedicated moderator or do we have to go cap in hand to the big boys?

Nice. It will just be this league and announcements about Frozone to begin with, of course.

Sorry to threadjack everyone, but the league seems to be on hiatus currently.

    San Francisco

The Stinking Rose - garlic everything, my girl absolutely loves this place
Anchor Brewing - I haven't been here yet, but I love their beer

    Santa Cruz

Miramar - seafood joint on the wharf, pretty decent
Moe's Alley - live music and alcohol, what more could you want?

    Silicon Valley

Double D's - sports bar in Los Gatos
Frankie, Johnnie, & Luigi, Too! - Italian food in Mountain View
Hunan Garden - Chinese food in Palo Alto
Edna Ray - Chinese food in San Jose (walking distance from my place)
DiMaggio's - pizzeria in San Jose, their stromboli is excellent

Any news on progress with UK1?

It was the effect of playing with almost only demolitions units. Adds a lot of psychology in planning.

Not that I'm aware of. It's all a bit up in the air right now, but hopefully we'll get back on track in the next day or two - even if we are delayed by a week!
