I'll mock something up during my lunch and see if it's what you're meaning. Might help with general clarity.

May I suggest brevity is something we try to put some focus on?

I think I get it and it definitely sounds like an improvement. Look forward to seeing it.

What I miss is the ability to do squad-to-squad coordination without requiring PL to micro-manage. I also fear that squads might feel isolated, unless PL is very mindful of letting everyone know what everyone else is doing, or making regular broadcasts of the general plan.

As you say, CMaster, that can be arranged with a slight complication in binds for SLs (I believe it is fairly easy to do, however), so maybe that should be tested.

Did you want to go for this setup then?

I don't think there is any immediate need to seperate the PL and PL Crew.

While I'd like SLs to have comms between them, previous experience suggests that the PL can do a decent job of relaying info, if they make the effort too. More importantly, I don't want anything to get in the way of SLs being able to swap in and out tonight, nor do I want the average player to have to mess around with any settings or do anything special for what is still an experiment.

I knew I'd seen a diagram that matched what he'd said somewhere!
So is it more like my diagram or Dewis? i.e. does the PL have a direct line to only the SL?

It's not a direct line to the sl. Pl goes to whole squad. Reply goes to pl only

So StratGir this week. Do we have someone who wants to PL it? Are they willing to use the new direct comms system, which has got good feedback the last 2/3 weeks?

I'd like to either SL or grunt it this week I think. I guess PL's buddy is another role I could do? Not sure if I might feel the urge to meddle too much then.

    For the comms system:
You can read a post explaining it here. You can download and run this registry file from Esoteric Reverie that will automatically set up the binds for you (you may wish to change which keys/buttons they are on after)

I wouldn't mind PLing tomorrow. I'd very much like to have one or two friends join me up there, to possibly run a "safe mobile spawn" with me. We'd focus on keeping a Sundy alive near whatever base most if us are fighting for. Any takers?

Except if work suddenly creeps up on me (will be sure of that in a few hours), i should be available for StratGir, and if so, i will offer my bodyguard / dedicated pilot service to anyone who is PLing, like I did for Laldy last week

EDIT : Confirmed, i will be there

I've wanted this for a good long while, and was one of the things I wanted to incorporate into platoon/comms structure. I'm up for FOB!

As i've had the last couple weeks out and feel like death i also wouldn't mind joining you up in the PL cloud as TVA Liaison for this one...

Alright! This should be good! Maybe this is a good time to run a proper combined arms platoon? 2 squads infantry, 1 squad tanks, 1 squad air support/AA. The tank and air squads stay in their vehicles at all times, basically, working at hunting Sundies, stopping enemy air and armour from interfering, and finally suppressing infantry and supplying radar coverage if no enemy vehicles are nearby. Infantry squads stay on foot capturing territory, supporting our armour when we're moving across open ground with enemy resistance, moving in Sundies whenever the path is clear, maybe doing the occasional gal drop to get that shock effect.

My command group will act as forward operating base for air and possibly armour as well, unless that proves difficult. I might also have someone in the command group do scouting runs for us.

Do I have people interested in leading these four squads? I need one tank specialist officer, one captain of the air group (CAG) and two decent tactical squad leaders.

Tank chief will need to get their vehicles to stick together and play cautiously. We want to use our tanks for area control, stopping the enemy from operating with vehicles in our area of operations, running people off is good enough. We have a propensity to overextend with our tanks, hunting down wounded prey, but losing the cover of the crowd, so to speak.

CAG won't need to worry about the forward operating base/safe zone/nest, just fly and coordinate strikes and air defence. Preferably we would be using some multiple-strike and/or line-flying tactics, with one vehicle taking the lead, and a couple others following, at least for ground strikes.

Infantry leaders will need the squad-specific whispers set up as discussed in the Mumble discussion thread, as I expect you to communicate and coordinate on your objectives. I also want you to call in enemy Sunderers and vehicle concentrations so that we can coordinate our own air and armour to handle them. You will want to bring infils for recon dart coverage, and make sure to use MAXes, both of these things have proven very useful lately. Feel free to apply unconventional tactics, such as a squad full of light assaults to break a tower defence, or an all-MAX+all-support combination between both squads, just make sure I know what you're planning.

I'm rather excited for this evening, can you tell? I hope to find four SLs who are similarly interested in making this work.

I'd be worried that we won't get 4 squads worth - numbers have been down a lot latley, and there were only 3 squads last StratGir (as far as I can tell).

Anyway, I'd love to run armour team (RockGir).

I don't want to dump your enthusiasm, but you should prepare an alternative plan if we have only 2 or 3 squads. Our numbers have been lower recently, and last StratGir we got only 3 squads (which was a blessing in disguise as it allowed Laldy and me to sit in a closed Delta squad, to avoid disturbing the SL)

EDIT : ninja'ed by CMaster XD

About that. Why not make 3squads platoon the standard fort tac/stratgir? So the PL is always in his proper squad with recon guys (let's say some infiltrators with quads and some high speed flying machines) and/or liaison between Platoons and/or liaisons between outfits.
I feel like this idea has been already said one million times.

3 squad platoons is fine when we have the people on for 5-7 squads, as was happening for a month or so.

When you've got just about enough for 4 squads though, a 2 squad and 1.5 squad platoon starts to feel overled and understaffed.

If we ever get back to June levels of activity (http://outfitpoints.com/OutfitDetail...09488620609255 see Online Members tab), then I'd very much encourage making the 3 squad platoon standard (we had been starting to move towards that)

Yeah, I see what you guys are getting at. I've also noticed that we've not been all that many on lately. We're going to skip the air squad then, if we don't get enough people to run four proper squads.

I've put CMaster down for Armoured Specialist Officer.
    Nick as TVA Liaison.
Ksempac and Dewi as designated drivers.

Seems sensible. If we actually get enough people for an air squad, I can probably take the role of CAG. We did some interesting things last monday, attacking in waves and stuff like that, which I'd like to try out. It would also be fun to get a couple of libs up in the air with proper ESF support, in order to take out enemy sunderers, MBTs and groups of infantry.
