This sort of place would also be good, if it wasn't in sodding Northumberland.

Tubby suggests this as an option - would be fairly cheap.

OK, so I contacted the Gothic Mansion people.
Looks like it will be ~£100 each. Not quite sure if they are saying it will scale with more people, or stay the same price.
We can arrange to stay till a reasonable time on Sunday too.
In Bristol is pretty handy as locations go - one could wish for more central, but it should work ok.

Bristol is only "close" if you're coming on an East Indiaman.

I'd vote for self catering, single large hall, middle of the country (UK). £50-80 good, £100+ bad. Note include food/booze costs in your planning.

As I mentioned up thread, every year we take around 20-40 people (inc v.small kids) to a YHA hostel self catering, for a weekend, normally works out at around £40 a head including a share of three kegs and food.

For this situation might not be practical since "middle of nowhere" isn't ideal and we don't actually know each other!

Also I resent the implication that Snowdonia and the Scottish central belt are equally inaccessible. You rarely get chib'd going to snowdonia.

That place looks decent, aside from the webpage (ye gods, tis terrible). Brizzle is great for me personally, but it is pretty far away from northerly peeps. That said, you don't really get those kinds of buildings in the Midlands so much (at least what I've seen of them).

I'm far from set on the place, it just seemed a good option. possible price will come down as we add more too, the email isn't very clear.

Bristol is a good way south - but not a massive way, and it's on major motorways and train lines. A lot of the places we are finding (seriously, go search guys, put anything that seems good on the thread - we can always chase and contact later) are in Devon, Snowdonia or the Lake District - so right out at ends of the country poorl serviced by transport.

For the Midlands, there's a good few places in/around the peak district. I've hesitated so far, as while they're fairly central and not a large distance from several airports, they tend to be a reasonable drive from any significant transport hubs. However, may start posting some, as they're still a damn sight better than sodding Norfolk.

Can somebody please investigate the Hostel angle?
We've already had the suggestion of Manchester/Castlefield, which on quoted prices we may be able to hire the whole place (even though we don't need it all).

Some easily accessible options that might let us hire the whole place (or some discreet chunk of) and have a nice lounge/dining area would do.

I'm looking up if i could afford the trip after all (propably not but flights would only cost abit over 100€), but hearing all the "but it's in Bristol" just make me think "hmm, that is a familiar name of place but where the fuck is it?". Being too lazy also stops me from digging up a map for every place name too .

For booking out a whole hostel, use this form:
    https://www.yha.org.uk/group-enquiries

Most YHAs are, mind you, in the middle of bloody nowhere. I don't think this is an issue if the plan is booze & games, but we'll need to arrange transport.

    Two things we should do
    a) Get people to properly confirm that they are coming.
    b) Get people to say where they are coming from.

As for a) I'm wary of anyone booking / stumping up cash without really knowing how many are certainly coming. I would expect that, if 20-odd people say they'll come, up to half a dozen will drop out.

Anyone know anything suitable as a 'small group' escrow system?

As for b) anyone know of a simple "put a pin in a map" website we can use?

    Google Maps.
I think its safe enough to say people are coming from all over though. (Certainly good numbers from London, Scotland + Sweden) Just being near hubs and not at difficult locations is the key.

Yup I'm the same. I'm ready to help promoting the event ingame or do other stuff for organizing, but when it comes to finding an accomodation in England, I'm just not qualified. I have no idea what's yours transportation systems and main hubs are. So I'm sorry CMaster, I'm gonna cheer for you and everyone who is helping for the accomodation but I can't do much to help on that point :s

If and when the publisher ever gets the reprinted one finished, Coup is also a worthy title. I'm pondering grabbing a copy of Werwolves of Miller's Hollow to bring along, as a game that can feasibly take every person who comes along.
