    ARMA 3 just exploring

    It might be a weird question, but is it possible to just run around enjoying the view and shooting some trees? I have an explorer's soul and sometimes I just want to explore without being shot at. With ARMA 3 do I have to play some scenario or multiplayer or can I just wander around doing nothing?

    Open up the editor

    You should default to the Unit mode, if not hit F1.

    double click where you want to start and add a unit. Make sure it is set to Player.

    Press preview and the game will load.

    Helicopters and the sports hatchback (under civilian) are my favorites for exploring

    You can also use the editor to set fire fights up, then wander around as a civilian enjoying the view (and mayhem). :)

    if you put "this setcaptive true" in a units init field it will be ignored by all the others regardless of faction.

    Just be careful as a civilian not to take any screenshots of Greek military bases.
    I'm failing to writing a blog, specifically about playing games the wrong way

    if you put this in the player init you teleport where you click on the map:
    Code:
    onMapSingleClick "player setPos _pos";

    So, not exactly what OP asked for, but in a similar vein, for anyone else who's interested, a mod that was featured on PC Gamer last week or so: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=24665

    You get to roam across the entire island, stopping by churches looking for your brother's body. There's a plot, some characterization, a currency system and lots of customization as to how murderous (or not !) you want the island's militaries to be.

    The location of the body is also random, so you may play multiple times, and how you find it is up to you, questioning soldiers that surrender, asking for help from civillians (which may have side quests for you) and so forth, that helps you narrow it down, since there are 300+ churches on Altis~

    My only issue with it so far is that I found an APC which seems to make things considerably easier (I just ran over a small of soldiers~) than being on foot or in the civillian car I had earlier, but that's only a minor complaint.

    I do believe you might be able to disable the soldiers entirely though, so if you want to explore without being shot at but with some sort of objective/plot, that's also a thing.

    Oh, and it doesn't require any mods or any other nonsense, so it's almost as easy to set up as plonking yourself down in the Editor.
