discussing it is fine, as long as you dont be a dick about it, shout at people, and dont post links to torrents or legally dubious software.

I generally only pirate games when a DRM-free copy isn't available (e.g., GoG). Ironically if publishers would stop trying in vain to prevent piracy, they'd have more money (from me anyway).

It's starting to get hard to pirate a game, when you know you have a big backlog of legally owned games.
    Backlogs killed piracy lol...

Thinking about it, I haven't seen many articles relating to piracy in ages, since the Steam sales etc.

The only real need for piracy these days is if digital distribution systems fail, given how ubiquitous cheap games are these days.

Which *does* happen. I recently wanted to go back and play Riddick, but the service that I bought it from (in the early days of DD) no longer existed, so I'd be SOL otherwise (not that I couldn't buy it elsewhere, but I can't justify re-buying it because the store I got it from failed).

I've also heard about people getting their Steam accounts banned due to no fault of their own (and little/no help from support) or a single mistake (loaning a login to a friend). I know that personally, if they took away my *entire* game library, I sure wouldn't trust another DD service. Now thankfully, the one I originally got Riddick from wasn't Steam or anything, so I didn't lose much, but if GOG, the Humble Store, or even Desura go under, I'll be mighty angry.

again, this is not a thread about piracy. this is a thread about discussing piracy. Even though your post was coherent and well formed, Im afraid its out of place here.

If youre looking to rack up posts to start a thread, let me know.

Also, stop quoting on the bottom side of your posts. It's weird.

That's an even worse quoting method!

Ha! so used to doing that in email it's a reflex. I'll do it this way from now on: thanks for the tip!
