    Frozen Synapse League Season 24

Sign-ups for Season 24 are now open!

If you played in Season 23, consider yourself signed up for Season 24 too. If you weren't (or didn't play any of your matches) but you would like to take part please do these three things:

    1. Add yourself to this list. Vote for your preferred game mode while you're there (although Disputed is off the table for the time being).
    2. PM your email address to me (optional, but it will be very useful if I need to give you a nudge). I will not disclose it to anyone else, except with your expressed permission.
    3. Click here to go to the RPS forum settings and edit the 'Private Messaging' section so that you get an email and/or a popup when someone (e.g. me) sends you a PM.

Remember to vote on which mode we should play. Dark Charge is most likely on current votes.

Season 24 will begin on Monday the 7th of October and will last until the 21st, so please don't sign up if you expect to be unavailable for that period. Rules will be explained in this thread before the season kicks off.

New and old players are all welcome! No experience required, and weaponry will be provided. Sign up!

I'm guessing we're starting a bit later than planned since it's now the 9th?

I have a house move to do next week so I'll be a little distracted; however I've taken the following week off work to recover so I can catch up any late games then

Yes, sorry folks. Got home last week from holiday to a house that was about 50% building site, and have only just got my PC out of storage and plugged in. I'll have the tables up tomorrow, if anyone's still interested in playing!

Admit it, you thought I'd forgotten. Season 24

Here are the tables for Season 24. It's your responsibility to issue a challenge for each time you're listed as Player 1 in this list. You play each opponent once, but you may choose to reverse any challenge you receive if you think it's unfair. Instructions will follow in the next post.

    Rules
    1. Each game must conform to the following settings:
      Mode: Dark Charge
      Turn limit: 6 turns
Turn duration: five seconds per turn (i.e. 5000 milliseconds - this is the default setting)
      Visibility: vis at time zero
Team strength: four men per player
Team requirements: Nothing specific. You may edit your games so the teams are identical and request that your opponents do likewise (although they don't have to!), but otherwise just generate random teams 'til you find something you like.
      Mutators
      : at the challenger's discretion
    2. Any game that does not conform to these rules will be void and must be replayed. You may not reuse maps - a new map must be generated for each opponent. Please see the next post if you're not sure how to create a game with the correct settings, and post in this thread if you are in any doubt.
    3. After creating each game the challenger must announce the challenge in this thread. The name of the person you've challenged and the game number are the important details.
    4. Once each game has been completed, Player 1 must report the result in this thread. (i.e. Game number and score displayed in the Results box). I will update the spreadsheet with the result of each game. Scores awarded will be 3 pts for a win, 1 for a draw. Tie break will be on the score awarded by the game.
    5. Challengers may start issuing their challenges from today (Sunday 13 Qctober). All games should be completed by the end of Monday 28 October (extensions are less likely this month than normally but will be considered).
    6. We're all reasonable people (if anyone's watching) so some flexibility will be in evidence. If you're going to be on holiday, or locked up in a triple-max slam with neither daylight nor internet access, or otherwise restricted in your availability, please post in this thread and we will try to accommodate you as far as is practical.
    7. Try to start your games in the first week and finish them early. Players leaving it to the last minute to issue a challenge or submit orders risk forfeiting the game. If any game is unfinished by the deadline I will declare both parties personae-non-gratae and donate your points to charity.
    8. Any circumstances not catered for in these rules will be handled according to some combination of common sense, consensus, iron-fisted authoritarianism and inspection of the entrails of sacrificed forum members.

Finally, a polite reminder that although PMing your email address to me is optional, it will make organisation easier so please consider doing so if you haven't already.

The divisions and rules for season 25 will be arranged some time after the close of season 24.

Also, if I've missed anything important or anything isn't clear then post below, PM me or email me either at ColOfNature or RockPaperSynapse on gmail to let me know.

    Good luck!

How to issue a challenge and other stuff

    To make a challenge

    1. Log in to the game
    2. Click the 'Online' button at the top of the screen
    3. Click 'Create a game'
    4. Click the 'Advanced setup' button
    5. Click the 'Generate Charge' button
    6. Make sure that the teams aren't too silly, or are identical if that's what you're going for. If it doesn't look right then repeat step 5 until you're satisfied. You may manually edit the teams to bring balance to the forces, if necessary.
    7. Click the 'Continue' button
    8. Ensure that the 'Game mode' is set to 'Charge'
    9. Ensure that 'Vis mode' is set to 'Vis at time zero'
    10. Ensure that the 'Turn limit' is set to 6 and the 'Turn length' to 5000.
    11. Activate Mutators, if you like.
    12. Enter your opponent's username (and make sure "I play side 1" is selected immediately below this).
    13. Enter 'RPS League' or something suitable so that your opponent knows it's for this league
    14. Click the 'Submit' button
    15. Take your first turn and note the challenge in this thread

To reverse a challenge if you think it's unfair

    1. Make a note of the game number and which mutators are active
    2. Find the map file in your Frozen Synapse install folder, e.g. "\FrozenSynapse\psychoff\data\encounters\refGAMENUMBERHERE.enc" and copy it to the folder"\FrozenSynapse\psychoff\data\userlevels\"
    3. Follow steps 1 to 5 above, then click the Load Level button.
    4. Enter the name of the map, e.g. "refGAMENUMBERHERE" (I think you can omit the .enc extension)
    5. Follow steps 7 onwards above - don't forget to activate the same mutators as your opponent had

    Notes

Maetco has asked that any games he's involved in have identical teams on both sides. You don't have to comply, but it would be appreciated. You may make the same request, or anything else that's reasonable, and it will be given due consideration.

If anything goes wrong, don't worry! Just issue the correct challenges and let your opponent know which is the correct game so they can ignore the faulty one(s!) (which will eventually be deleted from your list if no-one takes a turn, and can be hidden until this happens).

Coxy has challenged parpel in game 884932

    Double kill enabled.

I have also challenged Aedrill in game 884934 (unfortunately I accidentally clicked create and didn't go through advanced settings. Luckily both sides have 4 players and I am happy to play. If you want or if the rules state I don't mind creating a new game either!)

I can't bid just yet as have no time but the games are there!
