and just remember that Min and Req Specs are a GUESS - they're a sign saying "beware DRAGONS" to people with older PCs too.

Doesn't mean the game won't work if you don't match them - doesn't mean the game WILL work if you do :)

What we really need is a more practical system - something like this...

Trudging Spec - The spec you need to play the game on a PC slightly below it using slammed-to-the-min settings - FPS from 5-25 but hey!, it's playing on YOUR PC - #INYOURFACE

Grudging Spec - The spec you need to play the game at decent settings/stable fps on a sensible monitor

Nudging Spec - The spec you need to avoid actually non-existant 'micro stuttering' and 'control lag' caused by your porn downloads

Judging Spec - The spec you need to get(*) high/consistent FPS on the highest settings (all manually chosen of course) across 3 2K+ displays...

(*) Note that I did not say play - no-one PLAYs anything on those PCs, they simply run it and then tell people it ran...

Motorist habits, pedestrian activities, conversations that go on... all those sorts of things have evolved steadily from the walking targets in GTA3 or VC. When people say "graphics" they instantly leap to bigger textures and more shaders (i.e. the Crysis approach) but it can just as easily become about making the world more realistic or interactive. Pedestrian activities may not be part of core gameplay, but they make the world look a lot better.
Uh... that was my point, as in Rockstar have poured their money into hundreds or thousands of little details without so much thought for making them look "next-gen" (other than the water, GTA V is pretty much IV with a bigger world and slightly tweaked art direction), but Naughty Dog have concentrated more on the technical advances making a smaller number of details look much more eye-catching. But I agree I'm over-simplifying (as I said, it's hardly black and white) - I just don't like people saying "Oh, it's just because AAA game development nowadays is all about throwing money at the problem". In some cases it is, but not always.

The most outrageous requirement for me is that you have to play as someone named "Aiden." I can't fucking do it. That name, and all of it's other uses (Jaiden, Braiden, Kaiden) make me absolutely fucking stabby.

As far as I know, those were the rumoured requirements for the game and one of the developers (technical director if I'm not mistaken) said the official requirements would be lower.

Well, if those are indeed official, then 6 GB minimum RAM requirement doesn't seem to be lower. I can't see anything that's lower to be honest. It's more or less the same, with higher minimum RAM requirement.

I was joking, Poe's Law strikes again. So that his business card would be R.Aiden.
He's actually Aiden Pierce. I bet it's an anagram for something.

    Good lord!

Am I seeing a connection here? 6 GB minimum for both next-gen games so far. Sure, that's what the consoles are using but can't they offer some options to lower that value? I don't think the majority have more than 4 GB on their system. I'm really curious on some benchmarks for those next-gen games. Especially systems with lower RAM.
50 GB would be a bitch to download on my connection but if it means crisp textures, I wouldn't mind. But a recommended 780? Have I been missing some new next-gen footage from CoD Ghosts? Last time I saw, it looked near identical to the current game. Those dogs better look twice as good if it's recommended to have a GTX 780.

Is this the next-gen system requirements thread?
    Check out Battlefield 4:

Again the game eats system memory like pan cakes, never mind that we lowered the resolution to 1920◊1080, system memory usage is peaking somewhere above 9 GB. Welcome to the next gen game, ladies and gentlemen! 10Gb for Battlefield 4 at this point in time is a must have, and if you can afford it go for at least 16 GB just to be sure.

Of course the game runs fine on 4GB, but it's cool to see how it scales.

I suppose so. Its interesting since with the next gen consoles coming out, we are getting such a big leap in requirements. Which its hard to say if that is a good or bad thing. WoW was able to get big due to low requirements and any PC could run it. We want progress with scaling, which is not the easiest thing to do. I am on a good machine that is 18 months old: sandy i7, 7950, 16GB. But I know some people who have older systems and not looking to upgrade anytime soon. Price of console looks enticing for some who just want a gaming upgrade.

Shit, I don't even remember whether my PC has 8GB or 16GB because when I bought it in Feb 2013 it felt like it would take years before modern games could properly utilize anything more than 4, and therefore the difference between 8 and 16 was surely just academical and I needn't bother with it.

I went with 16GB since I tend to have many things open at once or multiple games. In my last system this was probably where I saw a lot of performance drop off. Now it is used as an HTPC box and seems to do all right with Space Marine and Batman. But I have to say the Core 2 Duo, even a last gen one, could not keep up doing more than playing a modern game at higher settings.

Quad core and having a i7 is a huge difference along with being able to effectively stream on the same machine (convenience) instead of hooking up a 2nd machine (which I did not have) to use as a stream capture and upload.
