Continuing the time-honored RPS practice of obsessing over the individual known as Wizardry, I thought of a good question. If you had to choose a game from the past with which to name yourself and introduce into many discussions as a good example of Things Done Properly, what game would you pick?
I would probably pick Asheron's Call and bring it up during any MMO-related conversations! I would talk about how lovely it was that it introduce a world where combat was possible and items with unique properties existing, and didn't really worry about setting too many "rules" beyond that. Everything was really freeform and you felt like you really had to learn about the world (especially if you avoided knowledgebase sites), and that you might scratch out a living almost anywhere instead of being confined to one or two level-appropriate zones. Also, portal storms! Best lag-handling measure ever.
Howzabout you? What will your new name-that-is-a-game be?
