    Hello Ruby Kickstarter.

I was made aware of this today : https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...kas/hello-ruby which I think is an amazing project lead by an amazing woman who is makin huge strides in addressing gender issues in the IT industry. Her message is incredibly positive and constructive which I think is the way to go.

The kickstarter is for a children's book to teach young children the basics of computers and software development and it looks absolutely amazing. I also encourage you to click on the links on the page which takes you to her work with her non-profit Rails Girls initiative.

If you have young kids or are interested in this sort of thing I highly recommend

Aye. This and stuff like the Maker Labs that are trying to get everyone regardless of biology interested in Tech and essentially having fun with electronics are the best.

Friends of mine run the LA Makerspace, they are the best. (one of those is one of the top Safecast guys, another project that is awesome)

Why Ruby? Why? It's like teaching singing using autotune.

Because the book is aimed at 5-7 year olds and trying to teach them about pointer operations and memory management or the Java libraries would crush their tiny souls and drive them away from software engineering permanently?

Why can't we just start segregating programmers in a caste system? The Ruby scum will be right above the JS untouchables. Atop of everyone the One True Prople of C++.

Goddamn web developers, if I had a NPE/SF every time one of them complains about their toy languages I'd be Windows ME.

Hmm... I use Javascript just as much as I use C++. Where does that fit in to your caste system?

They said that in the 90s and financial entities still run on Cobol and domain-specific scripting languages.

You'll star a mediocre movie saga about a high caste programmer trying to save the poor JS untouchables. The book adaptation will have softcore Lisp pornography for elderly engineers. The music will be made with a PII mobo speaker. That should fit your tastes.

Where do the assembly language programmers come in?
Nalano's Law - As an online gaming discussion regarding restrictions grows longer, the probability of a post likening the topic to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea approaches one.
Soldant's Law - A person will happily suspend their moral values if they can express moral outrage by doing so.

I dig it. I remember learning C++ through a book featuring a talking rabbit when I was 12-ish (it wasn't as colorful though).

That said, I'm surprised no one has hated on PHP yet.
