Byte Damage - upcoming arcade action retro 3d shooter thing!
just a quick post to let you know about Byte Damage, a little arcade blaster I'm working on.
It's a simple game for PC/Mac and mobile, at its most basic - click to move around the mazes and click on enemies to shoot them - but designed to be great fun.
I've been describing it as "like a trip into an 80's neon-hell, lost inside a virtual processor overrun with deadly viruses and trojans. Guide your function through the corrupted primary core, collect all 8 key bits on each level to unlock the exit, battle the infection and data anomalies as you go, and hope you escape with some of your backups intact."

I'm hoping to finish and release it in a few months time, hit me back with any feedback or questions,

New enemies, Digital Sentinels:
I've recently been working on those static electric arc effects, they're generated and animated in code and look pretty cool when they're moving. I might connect pairs of Sentinels with a lethal electric charge when they're close, and they're going to be hard to kill.

Another new enemy, the Datapede:
These digital nasties regrow their heads when shot, and if you miss the head and hit a body segment you'll split it in two. They move terrifyingly fast and regrow their tails when they cross special tiles. Bump into one of these and you'll be destroyed!

I've also been working on lighting effects to add a little more richness. Using proper lighting models has an impact on low-end devices (mobile/tablet) so I've been experimenting with various other methods, although it's possible I'll add full blown dynamic lighting modes for PC and Mac at some point.
