Clean sweep graphics card drivers when installing an update

Is this still necessary? i.e I've always used Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode to clear all the Nvidia display drivers, PhysX etc, then I run the new driver .exe in normal Windows.

Since Nvidia's GeForce Experience front-end is it still necessary to do this? They make a point of making it easier to update your graphics card drivers but if it's till recommended to clean sweep first what's the point?

    Some enlightenment please.

The newer installers have a "Clean old config" or something to that effect.
