    Best Half-Life 2 mods

I'm looking for the best single player mods for Half-life 2.

And also is there a mod that lets you play as a civilian in one of the cities like City 17?

Minerva is probably one if not the best.

I'm sure there's already a sizeable percentage of the internet taken up with lists answering your question :)

I though Mission Improbable was one of the best

Hidden: Source, everything else pales, so what it's multiplayer, it's bloody good.
I'm failing to writing a blog, specifically about playing games the wrong way

Amen brother! I was just thinking I'd use this thread to ask if the game is still alive despite the OP asking for single-player mods. So is it? The official site is not really breathing, or even holding its breath. More like suffocating...

EDIT: Really, what with the sudden 'affordability' of recent engines, I hope we'll see this come out as a standalone sooner than later.

Hidden source survives because of it's natural arrangement.

3 people is a perfectly populated server. Can you imagine Battlefield {insert number here} being exhilarating with 3 people? No, it'd be a ghost town.

The joke is that to a talented hidden a 12 player server evenly populated with newbies and experienced players is probably easier than a server with 3 skilled players, as weaker players are happy meals on legs. It's mechanics stave off the as slow death and make it perfect lan fodder.

Mistake of Pythagoras stands on the shoulders of Half life 1 mods which were completely barm crazy. Probably should have gotten the Stanley parable treatment but it was already good enough.

Everyone needs to have experienced being that crazy once.

All of these. Especially Minerva (Its bloody outstanding).

One that a lot of people miss is Research and Development. Entirely non-lethal, puzzle solving FPS'em up which uses the Source engine's physics rather well.

If you mean as in bloody & chunks? Absolutely, if you mean that in the trite games journalism way of it being tense and exhertive? That too.

Cinematic Mod, eh? Does its version of Alex still look like a Brazilian lingerie model?

    Yeah... Cinematic!?!!

In all fairness, that's not the default model.
