    Minecraft 1.8 pre-release

I glanced through a few pages and didn't spot any posts of this so apologies if it has already been made, there is an official pre-release of minecraft 1.8

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/

As a pre-release, obviously it is buggy. But if you play the game for the survival and exploration then even this partial update is fantastic.

spoilers about new features - the cave systems and ravines are so cool. Upon starting I wondered over to an edge a few meters away to see a 100 block drop into a misty mine filled with spider cobweb and abandoned support struts. The new lighting system and mist in the caves are both really beautiful. Biomes are now more distinct (you can find a clear thick patch of forest) and the geography seems to be much more varied and interesting. You now need to eat food to survive and when your hunger is satiated then you heal - I prefer it to the old system.

I host a tiny server on a computer if anyone fancies joining us to explore some spooky caves.

I read on the Minecraft Reddit FAQ that the estimated public release date for 1.8 is the 12th.

Yeah... I seriously doubt it's going to make the 12th. The leak is a pretty big mess, I keep getting out of memory errors and weird chunk issues. In one of the worlds I generated I somehow managed to end up with a piece of Nether complete with burning terrain. I love the new lighting, looks great. Also I hope they patch the menu so that you can swap a world between creative and survival mode.

It's making it out to be more of a game now instead of survival mode with creative tacked on. I like the direction it's going, but considering they take weekends off, how the hell were they expecting this to be ready for release on the 12th?!

I played it four four hours yesterday and didn't have a single error, I always used to have chunk issues before. My friend on my server kept getting disconnects though.

So, you haven't used a furnace then...

At any rate, I had no crashes and I hosted it as a server on my own computer and played that (just double click the server file, runs automatically, in multiplayer type in 'localhost' to find it) perhaps that helped with stability? My friend who joined it did have crashes though.

I keep getting out of memory crashes for some reason. Watching Minecraft's mem usage from the F3 screen, I can't see it approaching using the full amount of allocated RAM for Java, so I don't know what the issue is. Then again I'm playing SP not connecting to a localhost MP server.

I think furnaces were fixed after the first initial leak... or something like that. There are plenty of bugs though, there's a page on the Minecraft wiki detailing them.

The FPS has taken a huge hit too, one medium draw distance I get stutters on a pc that is well equipped to handle it.
