This might be the wrong place, but I just don't get this. System Shock 2 is praised for its atmosphere and music, but if I remember correctly, Med Sci 1 was the first area with enemies and I was welcomed by this music? I mean, you would think it would be scary and creepy, but it was this frantic... something. I actually turned off the music when I heard it...

It does feel out of place, yeah. I play with music turned off.

It's been years but I don't remember music in System Shock 2. Perhaps it only played when alarms went off or something. Or maybe just in the monkey bits. Those monkeys.

Deus Ex is rather excellent and iconic.

But when it comes to game music nothing, NOTHING, will ever come close to the truly iconic Commodore 64 SID chip tunes. And by a long way the best game music ever written, ever on the platform!

If we're going old school nothing is as awesome and terrible at the same time as X-Com: Ufo defense interceptor music

It seems silly at times but it goes really well with all the comic book aesthetic of the game.

BFW's soundtrack is pretty great for a free game.

    ...jazz?

Okay, let's not start that sort of flamewar =D

Anyhoo, the thought of buses + jazz brought this into my mind. I always link it to this kinds of threads!

It really depends. I played flawed/poor games where music made me play them more than I should (like Borderlands 1/2) and I also played some great games which had poor music, I just got used to it or turned it off. Problems start where people mistake the latter case with genuinely good tunes. Of course, it is ultimately subject to personal preference.

Not even gonna post about Final Fantasy 7/8, too obvious.

This, in the game it played in a desperate standoff. Also, STARCRAFT 1
