Will a P8800 Core 2 work in my laptop?

I have the Acer Aspire 5930g, and my current processor is the P7350, socket P (that may be obvious from it being called P7350, I don't know!)

The P8800 is also socket P (again, may be obvious...).

I'm assuming the answer is 'yes, obviously' but there always seems to be weird quirk hiding in the shadows to sabotage things.

As I'm here, would the t9400 work? And, is it as simple as any Socket P processor being compatible? I'm aware of heat problems and possibly having to get new sinks or a fan etc.

    Thanks for any advice.

I wasn't aware you could upgrade CPUs in a laptop. Easily, at least.

I've read about other people doing it for this laptop. I've opened it recently to clean dust out and the CPU is very easily accessible via a panel, you don't need to take the thing apart. I took that opportunity to reapply thermal paste to it. Apparently you can change the graphics card too, but not concerned with that at the moment.

Theoretically, should work without problems. Before upgrade update bios with newest available. t9400 has a somewhat higher TDP, so I'm not sure whether the existing cooling could be enough for it. However p8800 is safe bet.

I'm looking more towards the X9100 now! Not sure if it will work. Someone on youtube has a video of it working on the next model up from mine (which may mean nothing).

Why should I update the bios first?
